Flyglobespan departs Durham Airport

Flyglobespan has ceased its operations out of Durham Tees Valley Airport (DVTA), after declining to renew its lease at the base.

The budget airline has flown its final service from the regional hub, following the commencement of its operations there in March 2007, The Northern Echo has reported.

Speaking to the regional newspaper, a spokesman for Flyglobespan expressed "sadness" at the announcement, but suggested that it had been looking at "different ways of deploying its aircraft" at the base.

Another Flyglobespan route cancelled

Flyglobespan has cancelled another route from Aberdeen Airport due to a lack of passenger demand. According to The Press and Journal, the carrier has dropped its weekly service from the Scottish airport to Gran Canaria.

The route was only launched on December 22 but the newspaper reported that Flyglobespan has now emailed its passengers to say that it is no longer operating the service.

Flyglobespan increases Turkey capacity

Flyglobespan will add a second weekly flight from Edinburgh to the Turkish destination of Dalaman in the summer of 2009.

The Sunday service will join a Saturday departure between May and November next year, with prices beginning at just under £100 one-way including tax and surcharges.

He said: "It further reinforces our view that, while consumers may cut back on spending in other areas, the main holiday remains a necessity."

Flyglobespan has dropped an international route from Aberdeen Airport to Sharm El Sheikh before it even started, the Press and Journal has reported.

The Scottish low-cost airline has removed the weekly service to the Egyptian holiday spot, which was due to start on December 17, due to a lack of demand.

Flyglobespan denies rumours of impending collapse

Low-cost Scottish carrier Flyglobespan has rebuked claims that it is on the verge of collapse.

Responding to suggestions that it will likely be the next airline to go under, Flyglobespan has said that it is on course to see a return to profit in 2009.

In 2007, various issues caused the airline to report losses of £13 million.

Flyglobespan is to launch three new winter sun routes from Aberdeen Airport, The Press & Journal reports.

This December, the Scottish low-cost carrier will start flying to the Egyptian resort of Sharm el Sheikh, as well as the Canary Islands of Lanzarote and Gran Canaria.

The announcement comes just days after it emerged that no-frills rival Flybe is planning major route expansion at Aberdeen Airport.

Flyglobespan 'to stay at Durham Tees Valley'

Flyglobespan has denied reports that it plans to pull out of Durham Tees Valley Airport, The Northern Echo reports.

Local media reports had suggested the carrier was considering a move to the larger Newcastle Airport, which analysts said would have offered a more profitable customer base.

But an airline spokesman categorically denied those rumours, stating: "Flyglobespan is not planning a move to Newcastle."

Flyglobespan launches new routes from Glasgow

Flyglobespan has announced the launch of two new routes from its base at Glasgow Airport.

As of next summer, the Scottish no-frills airline will operate a weekly service to the popular Turkish holiday resort of Dalaman on the Mediterranean coast. One-way fares start at £100.

The route announcement comes alongside a brand new connection from Glasgow to the Egyptian resort of Hurghada, with one-way fares starting from £120.

Flyglobespan launch Aberdeen to Ibiza link

IbizaFlyglobespan has launched a new direct service from Aberdeen to the Mediterranean island of Ibiza, The Press and Journal reports.

The low-cost carrier will begin the route next summer, with the service running every Saturday throughout the peak holiday season from the end of June to mid-August.

Chief executive Rick Green noted that the airline already flies to the island from Glasgow and Edinburgh airports, and he predicted the latest addition would be equally successful.

Flyglobespan has taken the unusual move of selling tickets for flights 14 months before they are due to take off.

Airlines rarely put seats on sale more than nine months in advance and pundits are split over whether the move is a sign of desperation or a savvy marketing ploy.

Flyglobespan staff raise money for charity

Scottish carrier flyglobespan announced today (March 11) that it has raised money for the Children's Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) as part of a national fundraising day.

Staff members from the airline donated money at all of its offices, shops and airports, ranging from cabin crew and engineers to accountants and marketing teams, as part of Real Radio's Bring a Pound to Work Day.

Flyglobespan looks set to end Knock to US services

Flyglobespan has indicated that it will not operate its services between Knock Airport and both Boston and New York this year.

The budget airline had offered the two trans-Atlantic routes between May and October on a twice-weekly basis.

However, despite the success of the route when it began operating last year, Crawford Brankin of Flyglobespan told The Sunday Business Post that the high price of oil made it difficult to continue the service.

Flyglobespan: hot meals available on more flights

Passengers travelling to Cyprus, Madeira and Gran Canaria with Flyglobespan, the Edinburgh-based low-cost airline, will be able to purchase hot meals on board flights from December 1.

The pre-bookable meals will cost from £6 per person per flight. The choice of dishes includes beef ragout and farmhouse chicken, and the vegetarian option is penne pasta in a tomato and basil sauce.

The introduction of hot meals on medium-haul flights follows the successful introduction of a similar service on Flyglobespan's flights between Edinburgh and Sharm El Sheikh.

Bristol to Toronto route launched by Flyglobespan

CanadatorontocityhallFlyglobespan has announced the start of a service between Bristol International Airport and Toronto, with the first flight set to take off next summer.

The airline will launch a weekly flight, operating Mondays, on May 26 and offer travellers a link to Toronto's Hamilton Airport with return tickets starting from £315.

Tom Dalrymple, Flyglobespan chairman, said: "We are delighted to be offering passengers from Bristol this flight to Toronto. We know the market in Canada very well and this knowledge, combined with our ability to offer great fares, gives us a great product that I think will be well-received by our customers."

Flyglobespan to launch Canada flights

AlbertacalgaryScottish airline Flyglobespan is to launch two new routes from Dublin to Canada next spring.

From May 12, the carrier will begin flying weekly from the Irish capital to Vancouver, British Columbia, and Calgary, Alberta.

The flights will cost from €356 one-way, including taxes. They will depart from Dublin on Mondays, leaving at 1.10pm and touching down in Calgary at 3pm, and in Vancouver at 4.10pm.

Flyglobespan launches dive website

Sharmelsheikh_4Flyglobespan has launched a dedicated dive website, where customers can organise flights, accommodation, car hire and transfers in diving spots in Egypt and the Canary Islands.

The launch of the new site comes soon after the airline made its dedicated ski site available (see related Cheapflights story). The dive site can be found at www.flyglobespan.com/dive.

Flyglobespan is set to launch flights from Edinburgh to Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt this winter, one of the most popular diving locations in the world. There are more than 40 separate dive sites in this Red Sea resort.

Flyglobespan is to offer a weekly service from Durham Tees Valley Airport to Paphos, Cyprus, next year.

Flights will operate every Wednesday from April until the end of October 2008, with one-way tickets starting from £79.99.

SkierLow-cost airline Flyglobespan has created a dedicated ski website where customers can book flights, accommodation, car rental and ski hire.

The site, www.flyglobespan.com/ski, is offering flights from Glasgow and Edinburgh to destinations such as Geneva, Grenoble, Andorra (Barcelona) and Sierra Nevada (Malaga), from as little as £27.95 one-way, including taxes and charges.

Passengers then have the option of adding accommodation at hotels such as the Courcheval Olympic in Courcheval and Le Mottaret in Meribel, or at self-catering chalets such as Les Chalets de L'Adonis in Les Menuires and Residence Eurogroup Le Grand Panorama in St Gervais.

Flyglobespan trims winter services

Scottish carrier Flyglobespan is to cut part of its winter flight schedule at Durham Tees Valley Airport, citing a lack of ticket take-up.

The airline began flying from the northern hub in March, but its flights to Palma, Majorca, will not operate this winter.

They were due to take flight weekly on Saturdays, but will now end on November 17 before beginning again in March 2008.

Flyglobespan cutting winter flights from Aberdeen

Flyglobespan has said it will drop a number of flights from Aberdeen Airport later this year because of high airport charges.

Back in May, the airline announced that its 2007/08 winter season flights to several sunshine destinations would be available from £39.99 one-way.

However, the airline claims that it is being priced out of basing an aircraft at the northern hub during the autumn and winter, meaning that it will not operate flights to Alicante, Cyprus, Faro, Madeira, Palma and Prague during this period.

Flyglobespan expands at Durham Tees Valley

Flyglobespan will launch a number of new services from Durham Tees Valley Airport this weekend. The low-cost carrier is also increasing frequency on other flights.

From Saturday (June 30), Flyglobespan will base a second aircraft at the airport and fly to Jersey, Menorca, Nice and Pula in Croatia. One-way tickets will start from £29.99 including fees and charges.

Following strong customer demand for Mediterranean destinations, there will be extra flights on three of the five routes already served from Durham Tees Valley. Alicante and Palma will enjoy a daily service and flights to Ibiza will operate twice a week.

Flyglobespan sells Glasgow and Belfast to Orlando flights

Flyglobespan is selling tickets for next summer's flights from Glasgow and Belfast to Orlando Sanford in Florida.

The route operates all year round and passengers can book as far ahead as October 2008. Prices begin at £149.99 one-way (including taxes) in Economy, and £499.99 in Business Class. Economy-Class passengers receive a full meal service.

The Scottish airline will fly four times weekly from Glasgow from April, increasing to a daily service from June 15. From Belfast, flights will operate once a week and increase to twice weekly during the peak summer season.

Flyglobespan cuts back Liverpool-US flights

Flyglobespan has announced that it will scale back the number of flights it offers between Liverpool John Lennon Airport and New York JFK, less than a month after its launch.

The airline is blaming poor passenger numbers, but says it hopes to restore the daily service.

A Flyglobespan spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, load factors indicate that in the near future we will have to reduce the frequency to four or five times a week. We are currently working out the best way to implement this change to the service.

Flyglobespan to offer Edinburgh to Madeira route this winter

Portugalmadeira2Scottish airline Flyglobespan has announced the launch of a new winter service from Edinburgh to Madeira, with tickets going on sale this week.

The service will be the first ever link from the Scottish capital to the island, which is located in the Atlantic Ocean to the south-west of Portugal. Tickets will cost from £54.99 one-way, including taxes.

Beginning on November 5 and departing on Mondays, flights will leave Edinburgh at 9.30am and arrive in Madeira at 1.30pm. On the way back, flights (also on Mondays) will leave the island at 2.15pm and touch down in Scotland at 6.15pm.

New Liverpool to New York and Glasgow to Boston flights

Low-cost airline Flyglobespan has added flights to Sharm el-Sheikh from Glasgow and Edinburgh as part of its winter sun programme.

A Canadian Mountie and maple syrup were served up to passengers on the first ever flight between Liverpool John Lennon Airport and Toronto.

The launch of a Flyglobespan service across the Atlantic to Canada was marked by the airport with a bottle of champagne for the first passenger to check in and pecan pastries for other travellers.

Flyglobespan has announced an expansion of its route network from Aberdeen for the 2007/08 winter season.

Flights to seven new destinations - Alicante, Malaga, Paphos, Palma, Geneva, Madeira and Prague - will be available with prices beginning at £39.99 one-way, including taxes. The programme will begin on November 1 and run until March 2008.

The expansion begins today (May 1) and will see all routes up and running by the early summer.

Toronto's Hamilton Airport will be served by regular flights from Stansted, Manchester, Glasgow, Gatwick and other hubs. Stansted flights will be daily, those from Glasgow will build up to six times per week, and flights from Manchester and Gatwick will depart three times per week.

Flyglobespan offers Tenerife winter sun for Scottish passengers

Flyglobespan has cancelled a proposed Wednesday flight from Aberdeen to Murcia before the first flight has taken off.

The Scottish airline announced the route last October, saying it would begin twice weekly flights to the Spanish destination on April 29.

With taxes included, flights between Stansted and Larnaca will be available from £74.99 per leg of the journey, and the airline's chairman Tom Dalrymple is confident that this will prove exceptionally popular.

New Johannesburg link for flyglobespan

Award-winning airline flyglobespan will begin operating flights between Manchester and Johannesburg in November 2007.

The carrier, which was named Airline of the Year 2005 by BAA Scotland, already boasts a route between Manchester and Cape Town and it is largely due to the success of this arrangement that plans were put forward for an extension.

From November 2, the Cape Town flights will operate on Fridays and Tuesdays, returning to England on Saturdays and Wednesdays. Passengers preferring the route to Johannesburg will be able to fly on Sundays and Thursdays from November 4, with return flights again departing on the following days.

BostonFlyglobespan is continuing its expansion plans with the introduction of two new routes to the US from Ireland.

The airline is to offer three flights a week from Knock to JFK Airport New York, and two flights a week to Boston Logan International.

The service to JFK Airport will start on May 27 and flights to Boston will begin on May 30, one way tickets will start from €157 (£103), excluding fees and charges.

TorontoScottish airline Flyglobespan is to add to its network from Canada with the addition of a service between Gatwick Airport and Toronto’s Hamilton International.

It will join the 12 existing routes set to start from Hamilton in May, linking Ontario to both the UK and Ireland, with the offer of single tickets starting from £99.

Transatlantic flights from Ireland's Knock airport are set to begin from May this year, operated by Flyglobespan.

Regular flights to USA from Knock's Ireland West Airport, in the country's north-west, are expected to be part of a new route between Liverpool and New York's JFK Airport.

It is believed that the company is waiting for official clearance from the Irish authorities before announcing the additional route, which is expected to significantly boost tourism in this part of Ireland.

Flyglobespan is to extend its flights from Liverpool John Lennon Airport to New York JFK into its winter schedule.

Scottish no-frills airline Flyglobespan is looking to double the number of flights it operates from Edinburgh Airport.

Over the 2007 summer season, it will fly 14 times per week to Palma, 13 times per week to Malaga and twice weekly to Rome, in order to cope with increased demand from Scottish holidaymakers.

At the moment Flyglobespan operates flights once a day to Palma and Malaga and once a week to Rome. The increased schedule will begin from next April.

Scottish airline Flyglobespan has announced the launch of seven new routes from Aberdeen and four from Durham Tees Valley.
