Thomson and First Choice eye Robin Hood Airport

Robin Hood Airport (website: RobinHoodAirport.com) in Doncaster will benefit from the addition of two new holiday destinations thanks to First Choice and Thomsonfly (website: Thomsonfly.com).

The low-cost carriers said that from next May they will expand their route networks at the base, adding new services to Antalya in Turkey and Lanzarote in the Canary Islands.

New flights to Turkey from Norwich Airport

Passengers travelling through Norwich Airport will soon be able to take advantage of a new connection with the popular Turkish resort of Dalaman.

Low-cost carrier Thomson Airways has confirmed that it will be adding the route to its 2010 timetable, operating flights once a week from the regional base.

Thomson Airways 'no longer charging for oxygen'

Passengers flying with Thomson Airways can breathe easy following news that the low-cost carrier will no longer charge extra for oxygen services.

Until now, any disabled passenger requiring supplementary oxygen cylinders was forced to pay either £75 on short-haul flights or £125 on long-haul flights.

Children star in Thomson flight safety video

Thomson Airways has taken a novel approach to engaging passengers with its flight safety video, by enlisting the services of an all-kid cabin crew.

The low-cost carrier's pre-flight film now features a cast of young children who give a full demonstration of emergency exits, oxygen masks and lifejackets.

Thomsonfly cancels all Coventry services

Thomsonfly (website: www.thomsonfly.com) has announced that it is terminating all services from its regional base at Coventry Airport.

The low-cost carrier said that the cancellations had become necessary due to increased demand for charter flights, which had placed its scheduled services under strain.

Its announcement comes just one week after the airport lost a High Court appeal to construct a new passenger terminal.

Thomsonfly to stop flying from Coventry Airport

Thomsonfly (website: www.thomsonfly.com) has announced that it will end its scheduled flights from Coventry Airport from the beginning of next month.

The airline said that since the merger of Thomson (Web site: www.thomson.co.uk) and First Choice more emphasis has been placed on charter flights, with less attention on scheduled services.

The last outbound flights operated by Thomsonfly from Coventry Airport will be on November 2 while the last inbound flights to the airport will be on November 9, except for inbound flights from Jersey which will operate up to and including November 3.

Thomsonfly axe Durham Tees Valley route

Thomsonfly (website: www.thomsonfly.com) is to stop flying from Durham Tees Valley Airport to the Spanish resort of Alicante, The Northern Echo reports.

The airline - which will soon be re-branded Thomson Airways after merging with First Choice Airways - said it will axe the regular service next summer.

The cancellation comes on the heels of a move by Hungarian carrier Wizz Air to pull its Warsaw-bound flights from the regional base.

Thomsonfly dominates Tenerife route

SpaintenerifeThomsonfly has been officially recognised as the most popular carrier servicing the Spanish resort of Tenerife.

Figures released by airport regulator ANEA show that between November 2007 and March 2008 more than nine per cent of the nearly 2.4 million people who visited the Canary island used Thomsonfly.

In total some 209,645 British sun-seekers flew into the resort with the low-cost carrier, amounting to the largest proportion for any airline.

Thomsonfly cabin crew set to consider strike action

More than 1,500 cabin crew working for Thomsonfly are set to consider voting for industrial action due to fears over possible compulsory redundancies.

The trade union Unite has organised a vote tomorrow (January 30) for all Thomsonfly's 1,700 cabin crew to gauge support for a full strike ballot.

According to the union, Thomsonfly staff are concerned about their job security in the wake of the airline's imminent merger with TUI Travel, after the latter announced it would be closing 100 of its UK travel stores.

Thomsonfly cuts Bournemouth Airport routes

Thomsonfly is to cut five routes from Bournemouth Airport next summer, although it will begin two new ones.

When the airline's summer schedule begins on May 1, flights to Alicante, Pisa, Salzburg, Tenerife and Valencia will come to an end, because of a lack of customer demand.

The new flights are to Dalaman, a gateway to many popular Turkish resorts, and Heraklion on the Greek island of Crete.

Thomsonfly cancels Coventry to Barcelona flights

Thomsonfly has announced that it will cancel its Coventry to Barcelona winter service.

Citing competition from other airports in the region, the carrier will discontinue its flights between the two cities from this week, with the final service taking off on Thursday (November 1).

A spokeswoman said that the route would not operate over the winter months but that it may be reinstated next year.

Thomsonfly cuts back on Jersey flights

Thomsonfly is to reduce the number of flights it operates between the UK and Jersey, with the first services set to be cut later this month.

The airline had announced that its direct services to Luton and Cardiff will end on October 28, followed by Doncaster from March 2008; although its link to Coventry is planned to continue at this stage.

Bosses at Jersey Airport have expressed their disappointment at the move and have stressed that official figures show that Thomsonfly’s traffic has grown from 84,000 in 2006 to 122,000 year-to-date and enjoys a 12 per cent total market share.

Thomsonfly set to offer flights to Israel

The first low-cost service between the UK and Israel will start later this year when Thomsonfly begins flights between the two countries.

The airline has said that from November 1 it will operate three flights a week out of both Luton and Manchester airports to Tel Aviv, with one-way fares starting from £79.99.

Thomsonfly to operate greener aircraft

UK airline Thomsonfly has placed orders for greener fuel-efficient aircraft, which will replace the existing long and short-haul fleet.

Announced at the company AGM, the eleven 787 Dreamliners and 50 next-generation 737s will allow the airline to reduce its fuel consumption and reduce its carbon footprint.

The Dreamliner is constructed of a light carbon composite material, making it 20 per cent more fuel-efficient, and also features larger windows, cleaner air and better lighting for an improved passenger experience.

Thomsonfly: 2008 Birmingham and Newcastle holiday routes

For the summer 2008 season, holidaymakers wishing to travel from Birmingham will have weekly flights to Montego Bay on offer. The city is located on the northern coast of Jamaica, close to many luxurious holiday resorts.

Also new from Birmingham next year will be twice-weekly flights to the sandy white beaches of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

Thomsonfly launches new flights to Los Cabos

MexicocabosanlucasTravel company Thomson is to introduce flights to Los Cabos on Mexico's Pacific coast next summer.

A direct Thomsonfly service will operate fortnightly from both London Gatwick and Manchester, the Travelmole website reports.

The Baja California destination will feature in Thomson's Faraway Shores brochure, which goes on sale today (April 26).

Winter flights to Geneva from Doncaster Sheffield

AlpsThomsonfly has added flights to Geneva from Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport to its winter timetable.

The airline has said flights will start in December and operate four times per week on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, with prices starting from £19.99 one way, including taxes and charges.

A similar service was operated by Thomsonfly until it decided to end the route in April 2006. But with more than 80,000 winter sports fans using Robin Hood Airport the airline is to restore the link to the Alps.

Thomsonfly announces 15 new routes

VeniceThomsonfly has unveiled 15 new routes for next winter, with tickets on sale immediately.

Seven of the new routes will depart from Manchester, heading to Lisbon, Venice, Naples, Faro, Funchal, Paphos and Sharm El Sheikh. Flights to Venice will operate three times a week and prices start at £19.99, including taxes and charges.

The most expensive Manchester route, to Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt, will operate four times a week and ticket prices start at £79.99.

Cardiff to get flights to Barcelona

BarcelonaThomsonfly is to add flights between Cardiff and Barcelona to its network from next summer.

The airline is set to launch the service on May 2 and will operate four flights a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

One-way tickets will start from £22.99, including taxes and charges, and the flight to Barcelona joins Thomsonfly’s existing routes to Faro, Alicante, Malaga, Palma and Ibiza from Cardiff.

New Manchester links from Thomsonfly

Thomsonfly is to add new routes from Manchester, Luton, Jersey and Bournemouth next summer. All prices quoted below are for one-way fares, including taxes and charges.

From Manchester, flights will begin to Lisbon (from £24.99), Marrakesh (£34.99) and Funchal (£34.99), the capital of Madeira.

Lisbon flights will depart five times per week, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Thomsonfly announces new summer 2007 routes

VeniceLow-cost airline Thomsonfly is to introduce at least 28 additional routes next summer, including 11 from Manchester, TravelMole reports.

New routes from Manchester are Salzburg, Venice, Naples, Dubrovnik, Faro, Paphos, Mahon, Tenerife, Corfu, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, with fares costing from £19.99 one-way. The move will mean that Thomsonfly offers more routes from Manchester than any other carrier.

Also new next summer are flights from Gatwick to Paphos, Mahon, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Corfu; Nottingham East Midlands to Alicante, Ibiza, Mahon and Paphos; London Luton to Prague, Corfu and Paphos; and Cardiff to Faro.

Bournemouth to Prague flights continued into 2007

PragueThomsonfly's popular Bournemouth to Prague route will continue into next summer.

Five flights a week will take off to the Czech capital from Bournemouth's Hurn Airport in summer 2007, with tickets on sale now from £19.99.

Also due to resume next summer is the airline's Bournemouth to Valencia link, which originally launched in March last year and was Thomsonfly's first route from Hurn.

Thomsonfly’s aircraft fleet to be updated

Thomsonfly is to replace some of its older aircraft with a number of Boeing jets that are more efficient and quieter.

Two Boeing 737-300s will be new to the Thomsonfly fleet and the airline will also take delivery of three brand new Boeing 737-800 aircraft direct from the airline manufacturer early next year.

Thomsonfly increases legroom for long-haul flights

Flying with holiday firm Thomson is set to get more comfortable as the company announced it would introduce more legroom for long-haul passengers.

Thomsonfly, the company's airline, will take out 32 seats from each of its Boeing 767 planes, meaning that standard class passengers can enjoy 33 inches of legroom, while premium class flyers will have 37 inches.

The changes will be made to all long-haul flights – either as part of a package or a seat only – for the summer 2007 season and prices will remain the same.

Thomsonfly link to Jersey from Cardiff

JerseyHolidaymakers from Cardiff will be able to jet off to the Channel Islands this summer on a new service from Thomsonfly.

From May 25 the airline will be offering four flights a week to Jersey from Cardiff International Airport.

Maria Heckel, of Thomsonfly, said: “The new route to Jersey is further proof of our commitment to Cardiff and we are pleased to be able to continue to offer great value flying to the people of South Wales.”

Flights will operate on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday allowing for both long weekend trips away to the Channel Islands as well as weekday business trips.

Thomsonfly starts flights to Salzburg

SalzburgThomsonfly.com is to begin flights to Salzburg this week from both Bournemouth and Coventry.

The airline will offer three flights a week to the Austrian city from Bournemouth starting on December 1. Then 24-hours later will begin flying from Coventry to Salzburg, this time offering five flights a week.

Thomsonfly.com's Robin Hood services a hit with passengers

One of Britain's newest passenger airports has proved extremely popular with passengers since it began operations in April.

Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield has just handled its 250,000th traveller, and is hopeful that 800,000 passengers will fly from the airport by the end of the year.

Low-cost airline Thomsonfly.com is the major airline operating flights from the airport.

It currently flies from Robin Hood to eleven European destinations, including Dublin, Paris, Pisa and the Czech capital, Prague and recently launched its 1000th flight from the Yorkshire airport.

"We are very pleased to have given so many local people the opportunity to fly to so many places in such a short space of time," commented Thomsonfly.com's managing director Maria Heckel.

Britannia Airways changes name

The airline previously known as Britannia Airways is to be renamed Thomsonfly to reflect changing passenger tastes.

The Britannia name started life back in 1962 when it was called Euravia and this year it will carry over 9 million passengers.

But Thomsonfly say the name change has been made to reflect the way people travel today.
