Jet2.com launches Christmas NY flights

Jet2.com has announced that it will be operating new services to New York’s Newark airport in the run-up to the Christmas period.

The low-cost carrier is trialling the route with a service running two departures in November (6 and 13) and two in December (4 and 11), with the possibility of increasing its frequency if demand calls for it.

Newcastle to Corfu and Rhodes from Jet2.com

Greecerhodeslindos2Jet2.com is to start two new routes to the sun this summer, linking up Newcastle Airport with the holiday destinations of Corfu and Rhodes.

Tickets to the Greek islands are on sale from today (April 21), with one-way fares starting from £69.99 and the first flights to Rhodes start on June 4 and to Corfu on June 30.

Jet2.com signs three year deal with Hertz

Low-cost carrier Jet2.com has signed up to a three-year contract with Hertz Europe that it expects to provide "fantastic rates" for passengers.

The airline and car rental service have announced that they will be working closely together, enabling Jet2.com flyers to take advantage of promotions.

Richard Bodin, business director at Jet2.com, welcomed the deal, adding that Hertz was a trusted brand.

"It is important for us as a brand, that when we are offering services to our customers provided by third parties, we have absolute trust in both their service delivery and their value for money," he said.

Jet2.com's low-cost prices for May's new routes

Low-cost carrier Jet2.com has announced discounted fares to new European destinations from Leeds/Bradford and Manchester airports.

The airline commences flights to several cities including Avignon, Crete, Cyprus and Hamburg in May. Tickets start from £9.99 one-way including taxes. A selection of routes included in the offer is as follows:

Jet2.com announces Leeds Bradford to Paris route

Jet2.com has announced plans to launch a new service between Leeds-Bradford Airport and Paris.

The route between Yorkshire and the French capital is scheduled to begin operating on March 30, with flights available now from £4.99 one-way, including taxes.

There are twice-daily weekday departures in each direction on the route, with flights leaving Leeds-Bradford at 7.50am and 6.30pm and arriving in Paris at 10.20am and 9pm (local time) respectively.

Return journeys are available from the French city at 11am and 9.40pm (local time), arriving in the UK at 11.30am and 10.10pm respectively.

Jet2.com has announced plans to launch a free flight giveaway to celebrate its fifth birthday, with 10,000 seats up for grabs.

The airline's competition will launch at 10am on February 12, with visitors to dedicated website www.jet.com/36 asked to identify images from one of the 36 destinations it serves from Leeds Bradford airport.

As well as offering 5,000 free return journeys (including taxes and charges), the budget airline is also giving one person the chance to win return flights to all 36 destinations for them and a friend.

Budget airline Jet2.com has begun selling tickets for flights from Manchester next summer to some hot destinations.

Flights from Manchester to Rome, Faro and Budapest are on sale, with prices starting at £29.99 one-way, including charges. Rome and Budapest are ideal city-break destinations, while Faro is the gateway to the Algarve, a popular destination for beach breaks and golfing holidays.

Jet2.com teams up with Holiday Taxis

Budget airline Jet2.com has teamed up with transfer specialist Holiday Taxis, offering private taxis, group minibuses and low-cost shuttle transfers.

This means that passengers can pre-book their transfers before they fly via www.jet2.com, and know that there will be someone there to pick them up when they arrive at their destination.

Holiday Taxis can arrange airport transfers in more than 3,000 resorts across the world - customers simply need to select their destination country, airport and resort from a list on its website, and select the vehicle type desired.

Jet2.com axes Belfast to Prague flights

Jet2.com is to end its service between Belfast International and Prague from early next year.

The BBC website reports that the low-cost airline will stop flying the route in March.

The current service has been in operation since February 2004 and offered four flights a week, on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. But Jet2.com says the flight will end due to "seasonal factors" and it hoped that providing passengers with advance notice would enable them to make alternative travel arrangements. Passengers with tickets for travel are being told they will receive a refund.

Lovebites Foods, has won the Most Innovative Product prize at the Deliciously Yorkshire Annual Awards for its breakfast Lovebite Quorn and Cheese Omelette Muffin. The muffin is available onboard Jet2.com flights costing £2.50.

Jet2.com award from Guardian readers

Jet2.com has been awarded the title of Best Short Haul Airline by readers of The Guardian, The Observer and The Guardian Unlimited website, for the second year running.

The airline fought off stiff competition from a number of different airlines operating European routes, with Dutch airline KLM coming second and bmi third; the results were announced at an awards ceremony in Seville.

Jet2.com offers up flights to Canaries from Newcastle

Spain_sea_sunsetLow-cost airline Jet2.com is to start flights from Newcastle to Las Palmas, on Gran Canaria, and Arrecife, on Lanzarote, from next week.

The new flights to the Canaries will start on October 29, with the route to Las Palmas operating twice a week on Monday (until mid January) and Saturday. Flights to Arrecife will operate weekly on Thursday.

The flights join Jet2.com's existing winter flights to Tenerife, and allows passengers from the North East to take advantage of scheduled flight-only services to both islands, giving them the freedom to put together their own holiday packages with separate flight and accommodation bookings.

Jet2.com to offer Blackpool to Ibiza link

Budget airline Jet2.com has announced details of a new summer 2008 flight from Blackpool to Ibiza.

From June 30 until July 6, 2008, flights will leave Blackpool weekly on Thursdays at 7.40am, and will arrive in Ibiza at 11.30am. On the way back, flights will leave at 12.05pm and get back to the UK at 1.55pm.

From July 7 to September 7, flights will increase to twice weekly, on Mondays and Thursdays, leaving at 7.40am (arriving 11.30am) and 5.30pm (arriving 9.20pm). On the way back, flights will depart at 12.05pm and 9.55pm, arriving at 1.55pm and 11.45pm respectively.

Jet2holidays ties up with XL to offer Sharm El Sheikh

Jet2holidays.com has announced its first breaks that will not use its own low-cost flights - instead, the holidays to Egypt will include flights with XL Airways.

The company will offer trips from Manchester to the Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh twice a week, on Tuesdays and Sundays, with prices starting at £389 for a week in a three-star hotel half-board, or from £399 for four-star half-board.

Flights will be operated by XL Airways and will begin on November 4. Until now, Jet2holidays.com has only used Jet2.com flights.

Celebrations mark Jet2.com's ten millionth passenger

Jet2.com has marked a significant milestone in its almost five-year history by welcoming its ten millionth passenger.

The airline cracked open a bottle of champagne with lucky passenger Nicola Cairns, who was flying from the airline’s base at Belfast International Airport to Murcia with her two children, and also gave her return flights for herself and three of her family or friends.

Check in skis and golf clubs online

Low-cost airline Jet2.com has introduced a facility to allow holidaymakers to pre-book equipment such as golf clubs, skis and snowboards online at the airline's website.

The carrier is also offering 25 per cent off the airport charge for those passengers pre-booking online. Travellers need to visit www.jet2.com, check in using the online system, print off their boarding and then head straight to the departure area of the airport.

Those travelling with check-in baggage can leave it at the "Bag Drop" area at check-in.

Jet2.com announces record bookings and cheap deals

Budget airline Jet2.com has reported increased sales at its Jet2holidays.com subsidiary, as the miserable weather encouraged more and more Britons to book summer and winter sun holidays.

"The summer has been abysmal in the UK and we have already seen a surge in bookings for package holidays to the sun for the remainder of the summer," said Jet2holidays.com's general manager, Mandy Round.

"Early bookings figures indicate that there will be a knock-on effect for winter as families who have holidayed in the UK look for cheap winter deals to the sun."

Jet2.com stewardess crowned Miss Northern Ireland

A Jet2.com stewardess has been named Miss Northern Ireland.

Melissa Patton received a tiara and sash from current Miss World Tat'ana Kucharova and former Miss Northern Ireland Catherine Milligan, at a ceremony on Monday (June 25).

She is now set to take part in the Miss World beauty pageant, which will take place in the city of Sanya in Hainan, China, on December 1.

Jet2.com's new ski flights from Leeds Bradford

Jet2.com has announced an expansion of the number of low-cost winter flights from Leeds Bradford to Geneva.

In news that will have ski fans goggle-eyed (literally) in anticipation, the budget carrier has announced three extra flights per week to the Swiss city and ski resort gateway this winter, with Leeds Bradford-Geneva flights for next summer.

Tickets will go on sale tomorrow (Wednesday, June 27) at 10am at www.jet2.com. The airline notes that it will now offer a total of 10,000 seats each week to the ski slopes this winter; half of these to the Alpine destinations of Geneva and Chambery.

Jet2.com to stop flying Manchester to Barcelona

Budget airline Jet2.com is to stop flying from Manchester to Barcelona.

The airline is pulling the service in September, with rival airline Monarch claiming that Jet2.com could not compete with its own cheap fares.

Budget airline Jet2.com will begin a route between Belfast International Airport and Chambery in the French Alps in December.

Jet2.com to fly Edinburgh to Chambery this winter

Budget airline Jet2.com is to begin operating flights from Edinburgh to Chambery in the French Alps this winter, the Travelmole website reports.

From December 15, the airline will begin a twice weekly service, operating on Saturdays and Sundays. Fares will begin at £28.99 including taxes.

The route will build on the five existing destinations offered by Jet2.com from the Scottish capital - Avignon, Murcia, Milan, Pisa and Prague.

Fast track service on Newcastle to London flight

Passengers travelling on Jet2.com's service between Newcastle and Gatwick will be given free, priority fast track entry through security, meaning less time spent waiting in the queue.

The airline, which already offers online check-in, has introduced the service to provide quicker and more direct check-in and boarding facilities on its three daily flights to the capital.

Simultaneously, Jet2.com has said it will also begin selling Gatwick Express train tickets during flights, removing another queuing hassle.

No-frills airline Jet2.com has announced a new service between Belfast and the Canary Islands, which will start either at the end of October or the beginning of November.

Flying direct from Belfast International Airport to Las Palmas in Gran Canaria, the flights will operate twice weekly, on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Jet2.com's general manager, Carly Brear, said that take-up for the route would determine its future.

Jet2.com scraps Newcastle to Amsterdam flight

Low-cost airline Jet2.com has announced that it will discontinue its flights between Newcastle and Amsterdam, citing a lack of demand.

The carrier originally began flying the twice-daily service in spring 2006 (see related Cheapflights story), but it has now decided to scrap the route from the start of next month. Passengers with forward bookings for travel after June 1 will be refunded.

Newcastle aviation development executive Jonathon Rayner said the move was regrettable but that another company could step in.

Low-cost airline Jet2.com has launched a facility whereby passengers can pre-book their in-flight entertainment.

The popular Leeds-based carrier, which flies from a number of UK airports including Manchester and Blackpool, officially introduced hand-held Mezzo entertainment systems earlier this year following a successful trial.

Now passengers can click on links in the Travel Extras or Sky Shop sections of the Jet2.com website in order to pre-book their Mezzo player, from £5.

New London link from Newcastle

Budget airline Jet2.com has launched a service between Newcastle and Gatwick, with three flights a day during the week.

The link to London started today (March 27) and replaces a similar British Airways service that was dropped.
Jet2.com is to offer flight times in the early morning, mid-morning and early evening from Monday to Friday, hoping to attract both business travellers as well as leisure travellers, with a single return flight on Saturday and Sunday. One-way tickets start from £26.99 inclusive of fees and charges.

Avignon BridgeJet2.com has announced that it will begin flying from Edinburgh to Avignon this summer.

The low-cost airline will offer flights from £14.99 one-way (excluding charges), beginning on June 23.

This new service to the picturesque French town will add to the other destinations currently offered by Jet2.com from the Scottish capital: Milan, Murcia, Pisa and Prague.

It will also be the first direct connection from Scotland to Avignon, meaning that Scottish travellers can more easily access a city that is "bursting with culture and historical monuments".

Mystery musician gets spot in sun thanks to travel advert

Holiday makers have been emailing a particular airline wanting to hear more about the music used in their television adverts.

Newly-launched Jet2holidays.com has received more than 1,000 requests for "that advert song" since the television commercial first aired during Coronation Street last month.

And far from being a long established musician, the man behind the track is 25-year-old singer-songwriter Micky P Kerr, who was spotted by the producers of the Jet2holidays.com advert while they were having a drink in a bar in Leeds.

Leeds-based budget airline Jet2.com has been voted the top airline by online consumers at Reviewcentre.com.

The carrier beat competition from 170 competitors in the airline category, with more than 90 per cent of customers who reviewed the airline recommending it to others.

They were particularly impressed by the good quality customer service, reliability and value for money offered by Jet2.com, and placed it ahead of other no-frills carriers as well as full-service airlines.

Low-cost airline Jet2.com has announced it will allow passengers to pick a seat in advance of departure and check-in online to save queuing up.

Its seat selection service is available on all flights and allows travellers to choose a seat, maybe so a family can sit together, which on selected flights is free to do so.

For example, seats on flights from Manchester to Paris or Leeds to Amsterdam can be reserved for free, however, on routes not covered by the free offer a charge of £2.50 per seat, per flight will apply.

ASA boss explains Jet2 decision

The director general of the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has revealed that the warning issued to Jet2.com was necessary to preserve "a level playing field" within the industry.

As reported yesterday, Jet2 was cautioned about its future conduct as a result of a number of adverts promoting "free" tickets, which failed to outline the total cost after taxes were included.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4's You & Yours, Christopher Graham stressed that the references to taxes on Jet2's advertisements were too fleeting.

Jet2.com cautioned by advertising watchdog

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has warned low-cost airline Jet2.com about its future conduct after a number of its adverts promoted “free” tickets.

The ASA even went as far as to say that Jet2.com had brought advertising into disrepute, although the airline said it tried to stick to guidelines and that the use of the word “free” was in error.

Complaints had been raised about a number of advertisements that included phrases such as “55,000 Free Flights! Just pay the taxes”, although two of the three complainants were Ryanair and Flybe, competitors of Jet2.com.

New route from Manchester to Prague

PragueJet2.com has ended the year with a further addition to its network, this time announcing a link between Manchester and Prague.

The first flight takes off on March 1, with a daily service operating from March 25, and one-way tickets start from £29.99, inclusive of fees and charges.

Jet2.com offers entertainment systems to rent

Budget carrier Jet2.com is introducing an entertainment system rental service on its flights.

The Mezzo Players will be available to rent from £5, including headphones, and will feature comedy, kids' TV, music videos, sport, drama and other programmes to keep passengers entertained during flights. For an additional £2 passengers can rent another headset so that two people can watch.

Example programmes on offer for adults include Little Britain, You Are What You Eat and Top Gear. For the kids, there are shows such as Postman Pat and Transformers and there is also a selection of music CDs to choose from.

New Edinburgh to Prague route to begin next summer

PragueBudget airline Jet2.com is to begin operating a new route between Edinburgh and the Czech capital Prague from next February.

From February 5, flights will leave the Scottish capital twice a week to fly to Prague, the historic "city of a hundred spires" whose centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On February 12, this frequency will increase to three times per week and from March 26 until October 21 the flight will operate five times per week.

On Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, flights will leave Edinburgh at 8.30am, arriving in Prague at 11.50am. The return flight will depart the Czech capital at 12.20pm, arriving in Scotland at 1.45pm.

Six new routes for Belfast International

IbizaJet2.com is to double its presence at Belfast International Airport with the launch of six new destinations and increased frequencies on existing routes.

Jet2.com: four new Spanish routes from Newcastle

Budget airline Jet2.com has announced the launch of four new routes to Spain from Newcastle Airport.

From spring 2007, Jet2.com will fly to Almeria, Valencia, Malaga and Palma, with prices beginning at £39.99 one-way including taxes.

This will be the first time that Newcastle Airport has had flights to Almeria and Valencia and brings the total number of destinations served by Jet2.com from the hub to 13.

Jet2.com: six new routes from Manchester

Berlin ReichstagJet2.com has announced a major expansion from Manchester Airport with flights to six new European destinations to start from next spring.

The low-cost operator will begin a service to Berlin on March 25, 2007. The service will operate six times a week (except Saturdays) and one-way tickets will start from £27.99, including taxes and charges.

Two new routes to France will also take off. A daily service to Paris will start on March 25, with flights costing from £21.99 one-way with taxes, and there will be five flights a week to Toulouse from April 16 with fares from £24.99 one-way. These new flights will complement Jet2.com’s existing service to Nice.

Leeds Bradford to get Almeria link next summer

AlmeriaBudget airline Jet2.com has announced a new route between Leeds Bradford and Almeria in Spain, with tickets going on sale from today (September 12).

Flights will operate four times weekly (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday) from May 19, 2007, and will cost from £39.99, including taxes.

Almeria is located between the Costa del Sol and the Costa Blanca and offers many attractions for holidaymakers. These include the Desierto de Tabanas desert and the Cabo de Gata-Nigar national park, as well as beaches.

It is also where many famous spaghetti westerns were filmed and some of the sets of Sergio Leone's films are still there.

Take flight with Jo Whiley

Radio 1 DJ Jo Whiley already has a departure lounge at Newquay Airport named after her. Now she also has her name painted on the side of an aircraft.

Jet2.com has re-named one of its 737s, which is based at Blackpool Airport, the "Jet2 Jo Whiley" after an appeal in April by fellow DJ Scott Mills for an airport to be named after her.

Additional flights to Pisa from Jet2.com

Jet2.com is to expand the frequency of its service between Leeds Bradford and Pisa from one to five flights a week, operating on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

One-way tickets will start from £23.99.

Jet2.com boss Philip Meeson says the popularity of the current service has shown people are keen to visit the Italian city and the surrounding countryside: "We have been well and truly overwhelmed by the huge demand for our service to Pisa from Leeds Bradford and our fivefold increase in flights is testament to this."

ValenciaA new service between Leeds Bradford Airport and Valencia has been announced by Jet2.com.

The airline will begin four flights a week from May 18, with one-way tickets starting at £39.99, inclusive of fees and charges.

Valencia will be host to the America’s Cup sailing competition next year.

Jet2.com announces Krakow flights from Leeds Bradford and Newcastle

Low-cost airline Jet2.com is to begin flights from Leeds Bradford and Newcastle airports to Krakow in Poland this winter.

Jet2.com already flies from Leeds Bradford to Dusseldorf and Prague, but the Krakow links will be the first routes from the carrier to Poland, Travelmole reports.

Tickets will be priced from £19.99 one-way, including taxes, but the airline is offering special fares of £14.99 for the first flight from each airport.

Edinburgh to get link to Milan

Flights to Alpine slopes from Newcastle

Jet2.com will launch its eighth route from Newcastle International Airport this winter with a new service to the French Alps.

The airline is to start flights to Chambery on December 17 and between Christmas and New Year offer up to four flights a week, with ticket prices starting at £21.99 one-way including taxes.

The service will normally operate on Saturday and Sunday, but during busier times of the ski season additional flights will be available on Tuesday and Wednesday.

New Salzburg flights from Jet2.com

Winter ski fans will be able to visit the Austrian slopes more easily this coming season, as Jet2.com has launched a new service from Leeds Bradford to Salzburg.

The low-cost airline will also increase the frequency of flights from its Yorkshire base to Geneva and add the Italian city of Milan to its winter network.

Jet2.com has got in very early for next year’s America’s Cup competition taking place in Valencia, Spain.

The airline has made seats available on its route from Manchester for the summer 2007 period, with prices starting from £49.99 one-way including taxes.

The world’s oldest international sporting competition takes place in Valencia, starting in April next year and continuing for three months with a series of races.

Jet2.com offers route to Tenerife from Manchester

The airline has announced it will begin three flights a week to the island from Manchester, starting on October 31, with tickets priced from £55 one-way inclusive of taxes and charges.

Tenerife is a popular destination all year round, but during the winter months people are attracted by the warm temperatures and stunning scenery, with the now extinct snow-capped volcano in Teide National Park and natural springs at Barranco del Infierno worth exploring.

Blackpool gets new Prague connection from Jet2

PragueLow-cost airline Jet2 will begin a new service between Blackpool and Prague, beginning on Sunday, October 29.

The new four-times weekly connection will cost from £24.99 one-way (including taxes) and will fly to the Czech capital on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The Prague route marks the ninth service operated from Blackpool Airport by budget carrier Jet2, whose boss Philip Meeson describes the eastern European city as "a top destination for year-round leisure breaks".

2007 Malaga flights from Blackpool go on sale

Malaga is the latest destination to be added to Jet2.com's itinerary of routes, with flights from Blackpool to the Spanish resort beginning at the end of March next year.

Tickets for the five-times weekly link will cost from £39.99 one-way, including taxes, and those planning ahead can now book for flights between March and October 2007.

Jet2 already operates flights to Malaga from Manchester and Leeds Bradford Airports and is confident that people in the Blackpool area will welcome the new connection.

Amsterdam and Faro link from Blackpool

Five flights a week will be on offer from Jet2.com when they launch their new route from Blackpool Airport to Amsterdam.

And the airline has also announced it will begin serving the Portuguese town of Faro from the Fylde Coast three times a week; both routes begin on October 29.

Prices for one-way flights to Amsterdam will start from 99p, excluding taxes and charges, with single flights to Faro starting at £19.99, again excluding taxes and charges.

Passengers will be able to jet off to Rome from Leeds Bradford and Manchester airports and to Milan from Leeds Bradford. A flight from Leeds Bradford to Venice has also been resumed.

Jet2.com boss slams ‘lazy frogs’

The boss of Jet2.com has blasted French air traffic controllers as ‘lazy frogs’ after protests led to the disruption of flights.

In a press release the airline’s chief executive Philip Meeson wrote that the company ‘condemns French strike action and calls for lazy frogs to get back to work!’.

A Jet2 flight from France to the UK was delayed yesterday (April 3) as a result of students protesting by sitting on the runway.

Jet2.com relocating to Leeds

In news that highlights the growing importance of the Yorkshire hub of Leeds as a low cost destination, Jet2.com has revealed plans to relocate its head office to Leeds Bradford.

Between 30 and 40 staff from Jet2.com's existing headquarters in Bournemouth will be given the option of transferring to Leeds, where a further 100-plus new jobs will also be created.

The German city of Düsseldorf will be the latest addition to the Jet2.com network when flights from Leeds Bradford begin in May.

Spanish golf courseBudget airline Jet2.com is hoping to score a hole in one with golfing enthusiasts by offering passengers "impressive discounts" on five Spanish golf courses.

Passengers of the low-cost airline will only have to pay €40 (£27) to play on a quintet of courses in the Costa de la Luz region of southern Spain.

The courses on offer are all easily accessible from Portugal's Faro Airport, to which Jet2.com flies.

After touching down in Blackpool last November, the no-frills airline was persuaded to add its fifth route from the northern resort by feverish customers demand.
