Flyglobespan staff raise money for charity

Scottish carrier flyglobespan announced today (March 11) that it has raised money for the Children's Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) as part of a national fundraising day.

Staff members from the airline donated money at all of its offices, shops and airports, ranging from cabin crew and engineers to accountants and marketing teams, as part of Real Radio's Bring a Pound to Work Day.

Flyglobespan looks set to end Knock to US services

Flyglobespan has indicated that it will not operate its services between Knock Airport and both Boston and New York this year.

The budget airline had offered the two trans-Atlantic routes between May and October on a twice-weekly basis.

However, despite the success of the route when it began operating last year, Crawford Brankin of Flyglobespan told The Sunday Business Post that the high price of oil made it difficult to continue the service.

Flyglobespan: hot meals available on more flights

Passengers travelling to Cyprus, Madeira and Gran Canaria with Flyglobespan, the Edinburgh-based low-cost airline, will be able to purchase hot meals on board flights from December 1.

The pre-bookable meals will cost from £6 per person per flight. The choice of dishes includes beef ragout and farmhouse chicken, and the vegetarian option is penne pasta in a tomato and basil sauce.

The introduction of hot meals on medium-haul flights follows the successful introduction of a similar service on Flyglobespan's flights between Edinburgh and Sharm El Sheikh.

Bristol to Toronto route launched by Flyglobespan

CanadatorontocityhallFlyglobespan has announced the start of a service between Bristol International Airport and Toronto, with the first flight set to take off next summer.

The airline will launch a weekly flight, operating Mondays, on May 26 and offer travellers a link to Toronto's Hamilton Airport with return tickets starting from £315.

Tom Dalrymple, Flyglobespan chairman, said: "We are delighted to be offering passengers from Bristol this flight to Toronto. We know the market in Canada very well and this knowledge, combined with our ability to offer great fares, gives us a great product that I think will be well-received by our customers."

Flyglobespan to launch Canada flights

AlbertacalgaryScottish airline Flyglobespan is to launch two new routes from Dublin to Canada next spring.

From May 12, the carrier will begin flying weekly from the Irish capital to Vancouver, British Columbia, and Calgary, Alberta.

The flights will cost from €356 one-way, including taxes. They will depart from Dublin on Mondays, leaving at 1.10pm and touching down in Calgary at 3pm, and in Vancouver at 4.10pm.

Flyglobespan launches dive website

Sharmelsheikh_4Flyglobespan has launched a dedicated dive website, where customers can organise flights, accommodation, car hire and transfers in diving spots in Egypt and the Canary Islands.

The launch of the new site comes soon after the airline made its dedicated ski site available (see related Cheapflights story). The dive site can be found at www.flyglobespan.com/dive.

Flyglobespan is set to launch flights from Edinburgh to Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt this winter, one of the most popular diving locations in the world. There are more than 40 separate dive sites in this Red Sea resort.

Weekly flights from Durham to Paphos from 2008

Flyglobespan is to offer a weekly service from Durham Tees Valley Airport to Paphos, Cyprus, next year.

Flights will operate every Wednesday from April until the end of October 2008, with one-way tickets starting from £79.99.

SkierLow-cost airline Flyglobespan has created a dedicated ski website where customers can book flights, accommodation, car rental and ski hire.

The site, www.flyglobespan.com/ski, is offering flights from Glasgow and Edinburgh to destinations such as Geneva, Grenoble, Andorra (Barcelona) and Sierra Nevada (Malaga), from as little as £27.95 one-way, including taxes and charges.

Passengers then have the option of adding accommodation at hotels such as the Courcheval Olympic in Courcheval and Le Mottaret in Meribel, or at self-catering chalets such as Les Chalets de L'Adonis in Les Menuires and Residence Eurogroup Le Grand Panorama in St Gervais.

Flyglobespan trims winter services

Scottish carrier Flyglobespan is to cut part of its winter flight schedule at Durham Tees Valley Airport, citing a lack of ticket take-up.

The airline began flying from the northern hub in March, but its flights to Palma, Majorca, will not operate this winter.

They were due to take flight weekly on Saturdays, but will now end on November 17 before beginning again in March 2008.

Flyglobespan cutting winter flights from Aberdeen

Flyglobespan has said it will drop a number of flights from Aberdeen Airport later this year because of high airport charges.

Back in May, the airline announced that its 2007/08 winter season flights to several sunshine destinations would be available from £39.99 one-way.

However, the airline claims that it is being priced out of basing an aircraft at the northern hub during the autumn and winter, meaning that it will not operate flights to Alicante, Cyprus, Faro, Madeira, Palma and Prague during this period.

Flyglobespan expands at Durham Tees Valley

Flyglobespan will launch a number of new services from Durham Tees Valley Airport this weekend. The low-cost carrier is also increasing frequency on other flights.

From Saturday (June 30), Flyglobespan will base a second aircraft at the airport and fly to Jersey, Menorca, Nice and Pula in Croatia. One-way tickets will start from £29.99 including fees and charges.

Following strong customer demand for Mediterranean destinations, there will be extra flights on three of the five routes already served from Durham Tees Valley. Alicante and Palma will enjoy a daily service and flights to Ibiza will operate twice a week.

Flyglobespan sells Glasgow and Belfast to Orlando flights

Flyglobespan is selling tickets for next summer's flights from Glasgow and Belfast to Orlando Sanford in Florida.

The route operates all year round and passengers can book as far ahead as October 2008. Prices begin at £149.99 one-way (including taxes) in Economy, and £499.99 in Business Class. Economy-Class passengers receive a full meal service.

The Scottish airline will fly four times weekly from Glasgow from April, increasing to a daily service from June 15. From Belfast, flights will operate once a week and increase to twice weekly during the peak summer season.

Flyglobespan cuts back Liverpool-US flights

Flyglobespan has announced that it will scale back the number of flights it offers between Liverpool John Lennon Airport and New York JFK, less than a month after its launch.

The airline is blaming poor passenger numbers, but says it hopes to restore the daily service.

A Flyglobespan spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, load factors indicate that in the near future we will have to reduce the frequency to four or five times a week. We are currently working out the best way to implement this change to the service.

Flyglobespan to offer Edinburgh to Madeira route this winter

Portugalmadeira2Scottish airline Flyglobespan has announced the launch of a new winter service from Edinburgh to Madeira, with tickets going on sale this week.

The service will be the first ever link from the Scottish capital to the island, which is located in the Atlantic Ocean to the south-west of Portugal. Tickets will cost from £54.99 one-way, including taxes.

Beginning on November 5 and departing on Mondays, flights will leave Edinburgh at 9.30am and arrive in Madeira at 1.30pm. On the way back, flights (also on Mondays) will leave the island at 2.15pm and touch down in Scotland at 6.15pm.

Low-cost airline Flyglobespan has added flights to Sharm el-Sheikh from Glasgow and Edinburgh as part of its winter sun programme.

Flyglobespan has cancelled a proposed Wednesday flight from Aberdeen to Murcia before the first flight has taken off.

The Scottish airline announced the route last October, saying it would begin twice weekly flights to the Spanish destination on April 29.

New Johannesburg link for flyglobespan

Award-winning airline flyglobespan will begin operating flights between Manchester and Johannesburg in November 2007.

The carrier, which was named Airline of the Year 2005 by BAA Scotland, already boasts a route between Manchester and Cape Town and it is largely due to the success of this arrangement that plans were put forward for an extension.

From November 2, the Cape Town flights will operate on Fridays and Tuesdays, returning to England on Saturdays and Wednesdays. Passengers preferring the route to Johannesburg will be able to fly on Sundays and Thursdays from November 4, with return flights again departing on the following days.

Transatlantic flights from Ireland's Knock airport are set to begin from May this year, operated by Flyglobespan.

Regular stops at Knock's Ireland West Airport, in the country's north-west, are expected to be part of a new route between Liverpool and New York's JFK Airport.

It is believed that the company is waiting for official clearance from the Irish authorities before announcing the additional route, which is expected to significantly boost tourism in this part of Ireland.

Scottish no-frills airline Flyglobespan is looking to double the number of flights it operates from Edinburgh Airport.

Over the 2007 summer season, it will fly 14 times per week to Palma, 13 times per week to Malaga and twice weekly to Rome, in order to cope with increased demand from Scottish holidaymakers.

At the moment Flyglobespan operates flights once a day to Palma and Malaga and once a week to Rome. The increased schedule will begin from next April.

Flyglobespan will fly daily from Liverpool to New York John F Kennedy (JFK) Airport from next May.

The Scottish carrier had originally planned to fly from John Lennon Airport (JLA) to Newark Airport, which is around 15 miles outside New York City in New Jersey. However, the airline bought airport slots at JFK as soon as they became available, The Liverpool Daily Post reports, and the route is now likely to be marketed as "From JLA to JFK".

Early bookings for Flyglobespan's Liverpool to New York route were strong, the airline said, and passengers will be glad they now have the added bonus of flying into the prestigious JFK Airport.

New Glasgow flights to Barbados and Las Vegas

Flyglobespan is to offer the first scheduled flights from Glasgow Airport to Las Vegas and Barbados from early next year.

The airline has announced that it will fly to Las Vegas twice a week (Mondays and Fridays between February 2 and April 16) from £269 including taxes.

BostonFlyglobespan is to launch a daily flight from Glasgow to Boston next year.

The service will operate on a Boeing 767-300ER, a Boeing 757-200ER or a Boeing 737-800 aircraft. It will run daily through the summer and then drop to three flights per week during the winter, offering both business and economy seating.

PulaScotland-based airline Flyglobespan has made a change to its schedule of flights to Croatia this summer.

Instead of flying from Glasgow to Pula on Tuesdays, it will now fly on Sundays, throwing some Scottish holidaymakers' plans into disarray.

Flyglobespan to offer Toronto link from Manchester

TorontoA new service between Manchester and Toronto is to be launched later this year by Flyglobespan.

The Scottish-based airline has announced flights will start on November 3, with one-way tickets priced from £148, inclusive of taxes and charges.

The weekly service will operate every Friday and depart Manchester at 12.00pm arriving in the Canadian city at 3.30pm. The return flight will leave Toronto at 7.00pm and get back to the UK at 7.05am, the next day.

Liverpool gets first flights to Prague

Flyglobespan is adding a service between Prague and Liverpool John Lennon Airport to its network.

Starting in November, Flyglobespan is offering one-way tickets to Prague, on the UK’s most popular city break destinations, starting from £29.99.

The daily service from Liverpool is the airline’s second offering from the airport as it recently announced that it would begin flights to Tenerife, also from November.

Flyglobespan has revealed that it wants to be seen as Scotland's national flag-carrier.

Scotland-based low cost airline Flyglobespan has announced an expanded programme of flights for the winter season.

And it is good news for residents of Edinburgh - flights from the Scottish capital are set to double compared to last season.

New daily services to Malaga and Alicante are to be introduced, along with a weekly link to Tenerife. The city will also benefit from the resumption of a daily service to Geneva from December.

Flyglobespan signs deal on Orlando flights

Scottish airline Flyglobespan and Orlando Sandford International Airport have signed a deal to begin daily flights between the US and Glasgow.

Although the new route was no secret (see Flyglobespan goes transatlantic) this officially rubberstamps the first ever direct link between Florida and Scotland, set to begin on June 2.

Flights will leave Glasgow at 9.30am and arrive at Orlando Sanford at 1.30pm, return flights will depart at 6.30pm and arrive in Glasgow at 7.30am the next day.

New Tenerife link for Liverpool

Liverpool John Lennon Airport is to get a new daily link to Tenerife thanks to low-cost airline Flyglobespan.

The service will begin in November, with tickets to the sunny Canary Islands location available from £49.99 including taxes.

Flyglobespan, which already operates out of Glasgow, Edinburgh and London Stansted, has announced that the Liverpool hub is to become its next base and the Tenerife service is part of the expansion.

Flyglobespan sets sights on South Africa

Cape TownBudget airline Flyglobespan has pressed on with its long-haul expansion by announcing it will launch cheap flights to South Africa from November, The Daily Record reports.

Flights from Manchester to Cape Town will go on sale from £289 as Flyglobespan vies to become one of the UK's first airlines to offer low-cost, long-haul flights.

Flyglobespan previously announced it will commence a Glasgow to Orlando service from June, with one-way tickets costing from £149.

First Scottish flights to Costa Blanca to go daily

Costa BlancaPopular demand has led Flyglobespan to up its new service from Edinburgh to Murcia in Spain from once weekly to daily before the first flight has even taken off.

The budget airline originally announced the route back in October, with weekly flights to the Costa Blanca beginning on April 1.

But the service will go daily from May 1, The Scotsman reports, as chairman Tom Dalrymple revealed that initial demand had been "encouraging".

Flyglobespan stands strong against easyJet's Scottish invasion

Scottish budget airline Flyglobespan has vowed to undercut easyJet's ticket prices after its Luton-based rival launched four new routes from its hub in Glasgow.

easyJet yesterday said it would begin flying from Glasgow to Malaga, Palma, Alicante and Berlin from the summer, bringing the total number of destinations it serves from Scotland's largest airport to nine.

The announcement is set to lead to a price war as two of the new routes, to Malaga and Palma, clash with Flyglobespan's current flight programme.

Scottish budget airline Flyglobespan is gearing up for a major expansion of its long-haul services, The Scotsman reports.

The no-frills airline plans to raise £600 million to finance new routes from Glasgow and Edinburgh to the US, Canada and other international destinations.

The move signals a change in tack for the fast-growing airline after it was recently forced to cancel three domestic routes.

Scottish no-frills airline to expand

Budget airline Flyglobespan has delighted Scottish travellers by vowing to crack on with its route expansion drive in 2006.

The Edinburgh-based no-frills airline has boosted the number of holiday destinations it serves from Scotland from 14 to 22 since 2004, netting it a 50 per cent rise in passenger numbers last year.

But it insists it will achieve a similar rate of growth in 2006 by adding further destinations.

Glasgow gets two new flights to Greece

SCOTTISH low-cost airline flyglobespan is to begin flights to Greece from Glasgow Airport.

The airline will operate weekly flights to Athens and the Crete town of Heraklion, with tickets starting at £69 one way.

Both services will begin in May and brings the number of destinations operated by flyglobespan from Glasgow to 18.

New route from Edinburgh to Bournemouth

This route was subsequently cancelled

Flyglobespan has added an Edinburgh to Bournemouth route to its burgeoning list of cheap flight offerings.

The service will start in March 2006 and cost around £19.99 one-way.

"This is a really important domestic link," explained Flyglobespan's chairman Tom Dalrymple to The Scotsman. "We look forward to the launch of what is potentially a very exciting route."

Starting next year, the low-cost airline will fly to two popular Spanish holiday destinations – Murcia and Ibiza – from the Scottish capital.

It will begin weekly flights to Murcia on April 1, 2006, competing directly with Jet2.com, which last week announced the launch of a new Edinburgh – Murcia service.

Flyglobespan will also operate a weekly service from Edinburgh to Ibiza, starting on March 26, 2006 as it seeks to become the premier low-cost airline at the airport.

Starting on February 10, 2006 it will operate daily flights to the Dutch city from Glasgow.

Flyglobespan puts summer flights on sale

Flyglobespan has begun selling tickets for flights next summer on its website.

The Scottish airline is poised to undergo a major expansion of flights and destinations over the next few months, with a number of new services being offered from London Stansted.

From October 30, Flyglobespan will offer flights from Stansted to Geneva and Tenerife, in addition to the existing services to Edinburgh and Glasgow. It is also adding new flights to Geneva from its main base at Glasgow Airport.

Example summer fares include London Stansted to Tenerife from £29 each way, Glasgow to Barcelona from £5.99 each way and Edinburgh to Malaga from £15.99 each way. All fares exclude taxes and charges.

Flyglobespan could replace easyJet Glasgow-Amsterdam flights

Flyglobespan is interested in launching new flights between Glasgow and Amsterdam when easyJet stop operating the route later this year.

The Scottish budget airline's boss, Tom Dalrymple, has admitted that the airline is "actively looking" at the Amsterdam flights as it seeks to challenge easyJet in Glasgow.

"Since we started flying from Glasgow, we have increased the numbers of destinations we serve every year and we intend to keep that progress going," he told the Glasgow Evening Times.

easyJet has announced that it will stop all flights between the two cities on October 29, as a result of weak demand for the daily flights from business passengers.

Flyglobespan to take on easyJet between Glasgow and Geneva

Snowy cabinScottish airline Flyglobespan has vowed to take on low-cost rival easyJet on the popular Glasgow-Geneva route.

In response to the launch of new easyJet flights to the Swiss city this December, Flyglobespan has announced that it will also be offering low-cost flight deals to Geneva.

It will fly direct to Geneva every Saturday, with the first flight taking-off on Christmas Eve.

The airline's boss, Tom Dalrymple, is confident Flyglobespan can compete with easyJet for passengers heading for the Alps during the Winter Ski season by offering lower fares than its rival.

Geneva's proximity to a number of popular Alpine ski resorts make it a popular Winter destination.

English passengers looking for low-cost flight deals from London to the continent will soon have a new airline to choose from.

Scottish no-frills airline Flyglobespan, which already flies from Glasgow and Edinburgh to popular European destinations including Cyprus, Lanzarote and Malaga, is launching its first non-Scottish flights from London Stansted.

Starting in late-Autumn, Flyglobespan will fly from Stansted to Tenerife in the Canary Islands and Geneva in Switzerland.

Competition for passengers on low-cost flights from Stansted is already fierce, with easyJet, Ryanair and Flybe already offering deals to hundreds of European destinations.

Scotland to Stansted link

Scottish based airline Flyglobespan is to start a daily service to London Stansted from both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The new routes will leave early morning and return later in the day and is targeted firmly at the business passenger.

Flyglobespan will operate two different types of ticket, the first will be a standard fare whilst the second type will allow changes to be made.

A check of the site this afternoon and I was able to book a flight from Edinburgh on Tuesday, June 7, landing at Stansted at 08:30 with the return leg arriving back in Scotland at 20:15 for £39.98 inclusive of taxes and charges.
