Bmi closes two domestic routes
February 20, 2009Bmi has announced its decision to close its routes from the UK's capital to the north of England.
The regional airline will end flights from London Heathrow Airport to both Leeds Bradford Airport and Durham Tees Valley Airport on March 28, 2009.
Passengers who have already booked flights on these routes after this date will either be offered full refunds or alternative services.
Described in a statement from bmi as a "tough" decision to make, the conclusion of these schedules was blamed on a number of factors.
The airline said: "A decline in demand, higher-than-inflation cost increases at Heathrow, and higher government Air Passenger Duty charges have made operating these routes unsustainable."
As well as the termination of these two domestic routes, bmi also disclosed that it would be reducing the number of services it operates between London Heathrow and Amsterdam to four a day and between the UK's busiest airport and Dublin to six a day.
