Protestors leave Bangkok airport
December 4, 2008Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport has reopened a number of its international services, after anti-government protestors lifted their week-long siege.
The airport has insisted that it will operate full schedules from 11am Friday, with a normal service needed to fly home an estimated 300,000 trapped tourists.
Check-in desks and immigration controls are not yet fully operational; however, in a statement, the country's national carrier Thai Airways suggested that it would be operating 12 flights to international destinations by 12pm today (December 4).
The end of the occupation followed a court ruling which forced the country's prime minster, Somchai Wongsawat, to step down amid concerns over electoral fraud.
Meanwhile, Thai Airways has revealed that it plans to sue the People's Alliance for Democracy to recoup revenue lost during the protest. The smaller Don Mueang airport is also due to reopen tomorrow (December 5).
