Indian carrier drops Heathrow service
November 18, 2008Jet Airways is dropping its London Heathrow Airport to Amritsar service, as it attempts to reduce costs and lower capacity, the Travel Trade Gazette has reported.
The Indian carrier is halting the schedule to focus on its more profitable routes, as it was failing to achieve significant passenger numbers.
Jet Airways become the only airline to serve the northern city of Amritsar from Heathrow in August 2006, when it launched its three flights a week service.
Raja Segran, Jet's European senior vice-president, explained to the Travel Trade Gazette that the route primarily attracted visiting friends and relatives, as opposed to consistent business demand.
Amritsar, which is located in the north-western part of India, is home to the Golden Temple and the spiritual and cultural centre of the Sikh religion.
Jet Airways is India's second-largest international airline and its largest domestic carrier, operating more than 400 daily flights to 64 destinations.
