Flyglobespan axes Egypt route
November 17, 2008Flyglobespan has dropped an international route from Aberdeen Airport to Sharm El Sheikh before it even started, the Press and Journal has reported.
The Scottish low-cost airline has removed the weekly service to the Egyptian holiday spot, which was due to start on December 17, due to a lack of demand.
This cancellation means that Flyglobespan has axed three Aberdeen services in the last three months, with flights to Barcelona and Lanzarote also dropped.
A spokesman for the airline told the Press and Journal: "We are sorry that Aberdeen travellers couldn't support this Egyptian route in the manner that they have booked our other destinations.
But, in today's financial climate, we can't sustain a loss-making service." Only 200 people are believed to have booked a flight on the schedule, all of which will receive a full refund.
Aberdeen is host to the third largest airport in Scotland, with 3.41 million passengers using its services in 2007.
