Flybe targets Aberdeen expansion
November 19, 2008Flybe has its sights set on adding a further four new routes from Aberdeen Airport, the Press and Journal has reported.
The expansion, which would further cement the low-cost carrier's position at the airport, is believed to involve three additions to domestic schedules and an international route.
Flybe's chief commercial officer, Mike Rutter, confirmed that the operator was looking at possible additions but refused to name any destinations.
However, according to the Press and Journal three domestic routes could be to Cardiff, Norwich and Manchester, while a Norwegian service is also being considered.
"We have always stressed our commitment to enhance the regional economies within which we operate," Mr Rutter told the publication. "We will continue to look at new opportunities.
The question here is 'when', not 'if'," he added. In addition, Flybe - Europe's most successful regional airline - yesterday (November 18) launched its first ever Aberdeen flight crewed by an all-Aberdeen based staff.
