EasyJet delays Airbus order
November 19, 2008EasyJet has announced that it will be delaying the purchase of four Airbus planes, in response to uncertain economic times in the aviation industry.
The low-cost carrier, which operates 166 aircraft from 20 bases across Europe, revealed that it has delayed the planned 2010 acquisition of four Airbus A320 family jets, which could have an effect on the delivery of a further 109 planes expected in the next four years.
These Airbus orders form part of easyJet's strategy of updating its fleet to achieve maximum efficiency, which will bring down transport costs and aviation taxes.
Andy Harrison, chief executive of easyJet, said: "Unlike many of our competitors our Airbus contract provides us with a flexible approach to fleet growth, which we intend to make full use of in such uncertain economic conditions."
Last week, easyJet was honoured at the British Travel Awards receiving the award for Best Low Cost/No Frills Airline.
