Eastern drops Manchester to Stansted route
November 20, 2008Eastern Airways has decided to scrap flights between Manchester and London Stansted Airport as the route has become "unviable".
The carrier has revealed that it will be suspending the service, which operated three times a week, on November 28 - as it was unable to make money, despite reducing the price of fares.
The Humberside-based airline only began the route in October 2007, following the withdrawal of flights between the two airports operated by Air Berlin.
Darren Roberts, Eastern spokesman, said: "We have been operating on the route for 13 months … but the tough economic climate, higher fuel costs and increased charges at airports have meant that we have had to take this tough decision."
Passengers with flights already booked on the service after December 1 will be offered a full refund. Eastern Airways continues to operate from 18 UK and European airports and will start a new route from Aberdeen to Oslo in January.
