Delta scraps Heathrow service
November 14, 2008Delta is scrapping its London Heathrow Airport to Seattle service, just six months after it was launched.
The airline, which was formed following the recent merger of Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines, will conduct the last flight on this transatlantic schedule on January 8.
The service was originally started in June as an attempt to challenge British Airways' monopoly on the route; however, reports of extremely poor seat sales have led to its demise.
BA also had the advantage of a four-class service on its Boeing 777s and 747s, while Northwest's A380s had just two-classes.
Delta said: "As with any route, Delta is hopeful that we have the opportunity to re-evaluate the Seattle to Heathrow route in the future should market conditions warrant it."
Delta is the world's largest airline and offers services to more than 375 destinations worldwide in 66 countries - serving more than 170 million passengers.
