Bristol strikes low cost flights deal
November 18, 2008Bristol International Airport has secured a deal with a tour operator to help cater for the gap left after the collapse of XL, the Bristol Evening Post has reported.
Officials at the UK's ninth busiest airport have signed a contract with Teleticket to offer more flights from Bristol to European destinations next year, following a reduction of 90 arrivals and departures at the airport every month.
Specifically, Teleticket, the flight-only firm, will fly from Bristol to Tenerife, Las Palmas in Gran Canaria, Paphos in Cyprus and Lanzarote. Jason Wescott, Bristol International Airport's head of sales, believes this deal will allow the airport to meet flight demand.
He told the Bristol Evening Post: "It has been frustrating to hear from travel agents that customers want to fly from Bristol International when booking their holidays but can't because of a lack of availability."
The collapse of XL meant Bristol International Airport faced the possibility of losing 200,000 passengers annually, with services to Tenerife, Lanzarote, Corfu, Sharm el Sheikh and Larnaca particularly suffering.
