Ryanair launches new Spanish service
October 6, 2008Ryanair has launched a new service from Leeds Bradford Airport to the Spanish city of Girona.
The first flight to 'the gateway to Costa Brava' took to the skies last Thursday (October 2), opening up a welcome new link for holidaymakers based in the Yorkshire region.
Flights to Girona will be operated four times a week by the low-cost carrier, complementing another new Ryanair route to Alicante.
That service will be launching on October 28 and caters for what Leeds Bradford Airport spokesman Tony Hallwood described as burgeoning demand for Spanish flights.
"We are delighted to see the start of these new services with Ryanair," the aviation development director said in a statement.
"Their popularity is testament to the huge demand for low-cost air travel in Yorkshire and it is fantastic to see Ryanair developing their range of international services from Leeds Bradford."
The Yorkshire airport is recognised as being one of the fastest growing gateways in Britain, handling more than 1.2 million passengers this summer alone.
