SMS flight tracking proves a hit for Ryanair
August 20, 2008More than 10,000 customers have made use of Ryanair's newly-launched SMS flight tracking service, it has been confirmed.
The no-frills carrier introduced its mobile phone facility in June, enabling air travellers to call or text their flight number in order track any Ryanair flight operating out the British Isles.
People using the service pay a flat fee of £1.50 or €2, which a Ryanair spokesman noted is significantly less than the cost of a 30-minute stay in most airport car parks.
As well as the added convenience enjoyed by air travellers, the new flight tracking service also provides Ryanair with a sorely-needed extra source of income in the current turbulent market.
Commenting on the uptake of the SMS tracker, airline spokesperson Sinead Finn said: "We are delighted that so many people have used the service in its first month.
"Our SMS flight tracker service has already helped more than 10,000 people minimise the time and expense of collecting family and friends from high cost airports like Dublin or Stansted, where short term car parking is a complete rip off."

I tried the tracker and it works very well. The only problem is that it is only for Ryanair. I also tried www.skylounge.com They claim to cover 97 per cent of all commercial flights. It lets you put in arrival and departure SMS tracking at the same time which is a nice feature. The only downside is that you need to look up your flight number.
