EasyJet crowned best low-cost carrier

EasyJet has been named the Best Low-Cost Airline in the world at the Skytrax World Airlines Awards.

The annual industry event draws from the feedback of more than 15 million passengers who have taken part in an 11-month-long survey. Virgin Blue came in second place, followed by Jetstar Airways.

Underscoring the significance of its achievement, easyJet was the only UK-based no-frills airline to make it into the top ten.

Commending the carrier for its accomplishment, Skytrax chief executive Edward Plaisted emphasised that being a low-cost carrier need not equate to providing a low-quality service.

"EasyJet is clear testament that low-cost operations can be delivered with a good standard of customer care and passenger service quality - with their level of customer loyalty clearly demonstrating a winning formula," he commented.

The other big winner at the Skytrax event was Singapore Airlines, which walked away with first-place awards in the Best Airline and Best Business-Class categories.

Sadly, easyJet's customer complaints department does not live up to this percevied high standard.

It is now some ten weeks since I wrote to them concerning a cancelled flight (Stansted to Edinburgh) and I have been continually fobbed off.

The test of any service provider is surely how they respond when the going gets tough. By this criteria easyJet is a miserable failure.

I have just returned from winter holidays in Tenerife using easyJet for both flights. Check-in staff and flight staff were very polite. The return flight was only delayed 20 minutes. I will be using them again.

As for easyJet being voted the best low-cost airline, one can understand if they do not pay for damaged suitcases. We are still waiting for a reply from the Claims Department which appears to be the worst in that area, so easyJet not the best at that.
