Wizz Air suspends Coventry to Gdansk service
Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air is suspending its service from Coventry to the northern Polish city of Gdansk.
Having unveiled the route just two months ago, the airline now says it is axing the service in response to pressures on its fleet caused by the establishment of a new base in Kiev.
Wizz Air had flown to the historic Polish city three times a week - on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays - but the last such flight will now take place next Tuesday (May 13).
"Due to the launch of flights out of Ukraine we have decided to close recently opened routes, because this will least affect our passengers," a spokesman for the no-frills airline explained.
He added: "We will resume these flights as soon as possible."
While Wizz Air's existing connection to Katowice will remain unaffected, the suspension means that Ryanair is now the only airline flying directly from the Midlands to Gdansk
