Oasis goes bust, leaving flyers stranded
April 9, 2008Hundreds of people have been left stranded after Oasis Hong Kong Airlines announced this morning (April 9) that it was going into liquidation.
The carrier has been forced to cancel this evening's service between Gatwick and Hong Kong, scheduled for 8.40pm.
As a result, many, including children returning after the Easter school holidays, have been left without flights, a spokeswoman in London for Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific told the Metro.
Cathay Pacific is offering special one-way fares between London and Hong Kong until April 23, and operates four flights a day.
The spokesperson added that the airline was "looking at the possibility of putting on extra flights".
Commenting on the events, Cathay Pacific chief executive, Tony Tyler, said: "We will be doing our utmost to help people out, and will certainly do everything in our power to co-operate with the Hong Kong government and other carriers to minimise the impact on the travelling public."
