Liverpool airport launches art show for passengers
February 21, 2008Passengers using Liverpool Airport will be able to see part of the Tate Liverpool's Turner Prize 2007 exhibition as they pass to and from their flights.
"The Taxi Project" is built around a working black Hackney cab and features video screens revealing what the people of Liverpool thought about key cultural events taking place in the city.
With its installation at the airport, the artwork joins several existing exhibits by artists including Harry Goodwin, Paul Saltzman and Tom Murphy.
"We do hope passengers take the opportunity to arrive at the airport early to enjoy the exhibits on display," said the airport's managing director Neil Pakey.
Andrea Nixon, executive director at Tate Liverpool, added: "We are delighted that the taxi has moved to the Liverpool John Lennon Airport, following its spell at Tate Liverpool.
"The Taxi Project has proved to be popular, capturing the buzz around both the Turner Prize and European Capital of Culture, but also reflecting the rich variety of voices in the city."
Liverpool airport's attractiveness to passengers was further boosted last month with the news that four new retailers were opening stores at the hub.
