Norwich Airport suspends car park drop-off fee
January 28, 2008A charge introduced for drivers looking to drop off and pick up passengers at Norwich International Airport has been suspended, the day after it was introduced.
The £1.90 fee was brought in last Tuesday (January 22) following the abolition of a 15-minute free parking period by the car parks' operator NCP.
However, The Norwich Evening News reported that the airport's authorities had intervened to reverse the decision in the wake of passenger complaints.
Following meetings between airport and parking management, the decision was made to instead introduce a staggered range of parking fees from the start of February.
Parking will be free for the first five minutes, charged at 50 pence for between five and 15 minutes, with a £1.50 charge for periods longer than that.
"We feel that is a fair result for everyone and I hope people will see this as a fair charge. Five minutes is the same period used by lots of other airports," the airport's managing director, Richard Jenner, told the newspaper.
"We feel five minutes is ample time to drive in and offload and hopefully everyone will agree. Fifty pence is not an extortionate amount."
