New base at Manchester for easyJet
December 17, 2007Manchester Airport is to be home to a new easyJet base as the low-cost airline outlined its plans for the North West of England.
Following its takeover of GB Airways earlier this year, easyJet is to re-brand two aircraft in its distinctive orange livery, and intends to have five aircraft at the airport by 2010.
And by the same time easyJet has said it will have ten aircraft based at Liverpool John Lennon Airport by 2010 as well, making it the largest airline in the region, and able to offer 40 routes to an estimated eight million passengers within an hour's drive of the two airports.
GB Airways currently offers flights to a number of destinations, including Tenerife, Cyprus and Malta, and until March 29 will fly under the British Airways brand, while all customers who have booked to travel with the airline next summer will be given the choice of flying with easyJet at the same times or else receive a refund.
Mike Campbell, easyJet people director, said: "The GB operation at Manchester provides us with a great base on which we can build to tap into a new market.
"We remain committed to our base at Liverpool and, by launching additional operations from Manchester, we can make it even easier for everyone in the North West to access easyJet's services."
