© MonarchLow-cost carrier Monarch Airlines has unveiled a new mobile phone-based flight update service.
Monarch Mobile will provide customers with free information about delays, check-in location and booking reference, four hours before departure time.
In the two to three hours before takeoff, passengers will receive a text message detailing up to two exclusive offers from the airline, and shortly before boarding, an SMS message will be dispatched reminding customers to head to the their departure gate.
Kevin George, customer service director for Monarch Airlines, explained the new initiative.
"With the mobile phone forming such an integral part of modern life, text messaging seems to be the perfect way to update our passengers on departure day," he said.
"By saving people from constantly checking the airport departure boards, we hope they'll feel more in control, so we can make the time they spend in the airport lounge as enjoyable as the time they spend on board their Monarch flight."
Monarch Mobile will use the same information as the airport's own departure boards.
