Singapore Airlines first outside US for e-tickets
Singapore Airlines is the No. 1 carrier outside of the US region for implementing interline electronic-ticketing, a recent study has found.
According to an e-ticketing implementation status report from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the carrier is also third in the aviation industry overall.
With an e-ticket system, travel itineraries and passenger information are both stored electronically in the airlines' reservations systems. As such, it is easy to make any changes to bookings and customers do not have to worry about lost paper tickets.
At present, 90 per cent of Singapore Airlines' tickets issued in countries such as the UK, Singapore, Australia and Hong Kong are e-tickets.
The carrier is hoping to make all of its tickets electronic by the end of 2007, ahead of the IATA guideline of May 2008.
Huang Cheng Eng, Executive Vice President (Marketing and Regions), said: "Singapore Airlines is a front-runner in adopting technology in our business model, and we have embraced e-ticketing as a means to simplify air travel for our customers.
"With more than 95 per cent of our interline traffic enabled on the e-ticketing platform, customers can now enjoy the convenience of using just one interline e-ticket to connect from our flights to our partner carriers."
