Busiest month ever for Exeter Airport

Exeter Airport has enjoyed its busiest month ever for passenger numbers as travellers jetted off on new routes to the UK and Europe.

In July 112,301 people used the airport, a rise of five and a half per cent from the previous year, as new routes to Aberdeen and Amsterdam together with Avignon, Nice and Rennes, operated by Flybe, accounted for eight and a half thousand passengers during the month.

The greatest increase in passengers has been to destinations in Turkey where an extra two and half thousand holidaymakers used the Antalaya, Bodrum and Dalaman routes.

Jamie Christon, Exeter International Airport's commercial director, said: "This announcement shows the community's continued support for the airport and we are delighted with the record breaking figure.

"The airport's increased choice of routes and the improved facilities are reasons for the successful month but people also appreciate the simplicity of travel from their local airport with the easy access and parking, together with the shorter queuing times than at many airports for check-in and security search."

Although low-cost flights were popular among travellers, the airport saw an increase in the number of package holiday bookings, up ten per cent so far this year.
