Skytrax's World Airline Awards placed Virgin Atlantic's Clubhouse lounge ahead of Cathay Pacific's equivalent in Hong Kong, confirming its reputation as one of the world's leading carriers for business travellers.
Edward Plaisted, chief executive officer of Skytrax, said: "This is a hotly contested section of the Awards, and our congratulations go to Virgin Atlantic for securing this win. Business class passengers are a very demanding lot, and with the extensive range of high quality business lounges around the world, it is a great accolade for Virgin to get this vote of approval and satisfaction."
The airline's Heathrow lounge is 2,500 square metres in size and its interiors have been designed to feel like a private members' club.
Clubhouse offers a range of luxury services, including a hair styling salon, spa pool, sauna and cinema. Customers can also purchase cocktails from the stylish bar or choose food from the impressive Brasserie menu.
Steve Ridgway, chief executive officer of Virgin Atlantic, said: "We're thrilled that our Heathrow Clubhouse has been chosen as the world's best haven for business travellers.
"Thank you to everyone who voted for us."
This year's World Airline Award for the Airline of the Year, meanwhile, has gone to Singapore Airlines, which also received recognition for the Best Business Class. British Airways scooped the award for the Best Transatlantic Airline and Jetstar Airways resisted competition to collect the Best Low-Cost Airline award.
