Blizzards should cause 'no disruption' at airports

Britain is today (February 7) bracing itself for blizzards that are predicted to sweep across the country, but those with flights over the coming days have been reassured that they should not face any disruption.

Up to seven inches of snow are expected to turn the country white and news agencies have suggested that the nation's transport system will be brought to a standstill.

However, in spite of reports that flights will be affected, airport operator BAA has assured passengers that airports across the country are well prepared for the severe weather.

"No disruption whatsoever is expected at any BAA airports," a spokesman confirmed. Airports controlled by BAA include Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Southampton, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

The news bodes well for those with air travel plans over the coming days, but some passengers are likely to be worried about potential disruption anyway.

They are advised to contact BAA or their airline several hours before their flight's scheduled departure time.
