Appeal to help Nutmeg the flyaway kitten
November 7, 2006An appeal has been launched to help a kitten that travelled 2,800 miles in aircraft hand luggage, before being discovered at Newcastle Airport.
The charity Cats Protection has promised to look after the tabby and white cat, called Nutmeg, but is looking to raise the money to help cover the cost of the cat’s quarantine before looking to find her a home when she is released early next year.
The four-week-old feline travelled on two separate flights before being discovered by airport workers in Newcastle back in August.
Sheila Rees, of Cats Protection, said: “We estimate Nutmeg's quarantine costs will be around £1,000, not to mention the care she will need while we find her a new home.
“As Cats Protection is funded entirely on public generosity, we desperately need people's help to secure Nutmeg's future. She has been through so much in her short life already and really deserves a second chance."
Nutmeg will eventually be released from quarantine in February and any money raised in excess of the appeal will be used to help the thousands of other cats currently in the charity's care.
Each year Cats Protection finds homes for around 60,000 cats and kittens through its nationwide network of 29 Centres and 261 voluntary-run branches.
