£75 London to Hong Kong flights now on sale

September 6, 2006

This is an archived article

A start-up airline has begun selling tickets from London Gatwick to Hong Kong from £75 one-way, excluding taxes.

As previously reported on Cheap Flight News (see New airline plans cheap flights to Hong Kong), Oasis Hong Kong Airlines promises to usher in a new era in low-cost long-haul air travel and has plans to eventually expand to other destinations including Chicago.

Flights between Gatwick and Hong Kong will begin on October 26, 2006 and online bookings are being accepted from today (September 6, 2006). Initially the service, operated by Boeing 747s, will fly four times a week, with the frequency increasing to daily in November.

The airline will offer significantly cheaper flights than its rivals but it maintains that comfort will not be compromised.

Economy seats have seat-back TV screens and a 32-inch seat pitch – the same or better than other carriers that operate between the UK and Hong Kong. Economy tickets also include two meals, but passengers can upgrade to gourmet meals for an extra charge.

Business class seats will begin at £470 one-way (excluding taxes) and offer fully reclining seats with a seat pitch of 60 inches.

Oasis Hong Kong says it is "dedicated to making long-haul travel more accessible and affordable for both business and leisure travellers" without compromising on safety or security.

That sounds amazing. I'm a non-frequent flyer to SE Asia, but have plans to meet up with friends over there, this is great news.

This sounds just what the doctor ordered! I shall certainly be using this service as a frequent traveller to Asia.

I miss this airline and hope they will resume soon.

Cheers,
MV
