Passenger flies to wrong Manchester
A passenger travelling with US airline Continental believed he was flying back to Manchester from America, but ended up in Manchester, New Hampshire (NH).
Trainee pilot Jim Hourihan, of Liverpool, got on a Continental Airlines flight that was due to fly to Manchester, but when he boarded a connecting flight in Cleveland – a small, 50-seat plane – he knew that something was up.
"When I first saw the plane I thought, 'That's not going to Manchester, England,'" he told New Hampshire television station WMUR-TV. "And it was then that it dawned on me. There must be two Manchesters."
Following the mix-up, Continental booked Hourihan on a flight to the original Manchester via Newark, New Jersey, at no extra cost. Hourihan reportedly enjoyed his stay at Manchester, NH, but said it could do with a few more pubs.
Jim Hourihan, 52, had been in California to attend a training course for pilots.
