Gatwick Express named UK's best rail service
As airports around the UK enjoy improved public transport links, the Gatwick Express has been named the country's best rail service in a new survey.
The Passenger Focus study questioned 50,000 rail users and the Gatwick link achieved the highest ever score in the history of the survey, which rates 31 aspects of customer service.
The result is the latest example of improvements to the public transport infrastructure serving airports as more and more people take advantage of cheap flights from the UK.
Others include the opening of a new £32 million public transport interchange serving Liverpool John Lennon Airport last weekend and the recent backing by senior figures of a possible new Glasgow Airport rail link.
Andrew Conroy, the customer service chief at Gatwick Express, welcomed the result of the latest survey, explaining that the company "has evolved a customer service ethos that has become the essence of [the] company".
The Gatwick Express is a high-speed link that runs between London's Victoria station and Gatwick Airport. Trains leave every 15 minutes and journey times are about 30 minutes.
