The suitcase that weighs itself
April 21, 2006One of the biggest fears that people have when they take to the skies is that their baggage is going to be too heavy and that they will be charged a fee.
It is not a pretty sight seeing people re-packing at check-in when they have been told they face an excess baggage charge, so how about a suitcase that weighs itself?
A selection of suitcases from Ricardo Beverly Hills have small digital displays in the top of them that will tell you how heavy the bag is, warning you that you may have to take one or two things out.
Robert Dodson, president of Ricardo Beverly Hills, said: “The built-in digital scale uses state-of-the-art technology and is designed, built and tested to withstand the rigors of everyday travel."
After packing your luggage, you simply push the 'on' button, lift the carry handle and the LCD display gives a read-out of the combined weight of the luggage and contents.
The built-in digital scale automatically shuts off after 15 seconds.
So gone are those stressful few minutes where you keep picking up your bag, trying to guess its weight, before you pop it on the scales and your heart sinks.
