Jet2.com boss slams ‘lazy frogs’
April 4, 2006The boss of Jet2.com has blasted French air traffic controllers as ‘lazy frogs’ after protests led to the disruption of flights.
In a press release the airline’s chief executive Philip Meeson wrote that the company ‘condemns French strike action and calls for lazy frogs to get back to work!’.
A Jet2 flight from France to the UK was delayed yesterday (April 3) as a result of students protesting by sitting on the runway.
A Boeing 737 was scheduled to fly more than 100 passengers from Chambery Airport in the Alps to Leeds Bradford airport, but was unable to take off as scheduled, arriving in the UK 90 minutes late.
Philip Meeson said he was angry the French police had allowed the students to disrupt the service, particularly as it followed a general strike by air traffic controllers last week.
A Jet2 flight from Manchester was also diverted to the French town of Grenoble because it could not land at Chamberry.
Strike action across France has disrupted travel and is in protest at the introduction of new employment laws, which opponents fear will make jobs for young people less secure.
Low cost airline Jet2 flies from the UK to a host of European destinations, setting off from one of Belfast, Blackpool, Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester or Newcastle.
