British Airways best for amenities
April 4, 2006British Airways has been voted the airline with the best amenities overall, while low cost airline Ryanair was judged the worst in a poll of travellers.
TripAdvisor asked 2,300 passengers worldwide what they looked for in an airline, with British Airways emerging as favourite for the food served.
Other factors considered included comfortable blankets and pillows and clean bathrooms, although over half (54 per cent) said that the luxury they would be most willing to pay extra for was more spacious seats.
Over a third (35 per cent) said a clean and roomy bathroom was a priority when travelling, while 47 per cent demanded a TV screen in the back of each seat.
When it comes to inflight catering most travellers expressed a desire for good quality bottled water, with fruit and vegetables found to be the most desirable foods. Wine, cheese and biscuits were also highly regarded amongst passengers.
British Airways was followed by Virgin Atlantic in the top five airlines for amenities, with easyJet joining Ryanair at the bottom of the table.
Michele Perry, Tripadvisor director of communications, said: "Travellers aren't asking for much. According to this survey, airlines should forget about the latest bells and whistles and get back to the basics, like clean bathrooms and comfortable seating."
