UK leads Europe when travelling low-cost
The Brits lead the way when it comes to using low-cost airlines, with 41 per cent saying they have flown with the likes of Ryanair, easyJet and Flybe.
In a major study of the popularity of cheap flights amongst five European nations, UK passengers were between two and three times more likely to travel on low-cost jets.
The survey by TNS Infratest interviewed 13,000 people from the UK, Italy, France, Germany and Spain.
The second most popular country for cheap flights was Italy where one-in-five people had used the services of a low-cost carrier.
Both the British and Italians appeared ready to give up the more luxurious elements of air travel if it meant a better ticket price.
Use of low-cost airlines amongst German, Spanish and French travellers was very low, with 13 per cent of people saying they had used such services.
Interestingly the survey also looked at the potential demand for low-cost airlines in the respective countries.
Despite the fact that few people in Spain and France had flown with a no-frills carrier, just over 50 per cent of people said they would be willing to fly with one in the future.
And although you might be fed-up with seeing Ryanair and easyJet advertisements across Europe, their marketing campaign is working as they were the only low-cost operators recognised at an international level.
