easyJet: We're greener than our rivals
March 2, 2006The new boss of easyJet has used his first public interview to argue that the budget airline is more environmentally friendly than its competitors.
Speaking to the Guardian, Andy Harrison asserted that the green-minded should choose easyJet and spurn rivals such as British Airways and Ryanair.
The secret to flying in an environmentally friendly way, he claimed, is to use new aircraft and full aircraft.
Referring to BA, Mr Harrison said: "The low-cost model is more environmentally friendly than people who fly 15-year-old aircraft half full."
He added: "I've got kids. I want them to live happily in the world. easyJet is a responsible company."
In contrast to no-frills rival Ryanair, Mr Harrison also revealed he would favour an emissions trading scheme in Europe.
easyJet isn't the only airline keen to highlight its efforts to save the planet. Last November, Virgin Atlantic boss Richard Branson said he was looking into fuelling his planes with plant waste.
