Running nude through Pamplona
January 25, 2006Have you heard about the Running of the Nudes?
Well now that I’ve got your attention, this is an event that takes place a few days before the well-known bull run through the streets of Pamplona.
It is organised as a protest against the running of the bulls and aims to show people that there is more than one way to attract tourists to the town.
Lauren Bowey left a comment on the article written earlier this week about Pamplona, highlighting the Running of the Nudes and her own plans to take part.
“The event will see hundreds of fun-loving people from all around the world run, dance and sing naked along the streets of Pamplona to show people that they don’t need to torture animals for tourism,” Lauren said.
“We are also showing tourists who plan to attend the Running of the Bulls that torturing animals for entertainment is wrong and if they are looking for a thrill the Running of the Nudes will give them just that.
“I’m going to be there for the sexiest party in Pamplona on July 5.”
PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) started the event to protest at the cruel conditions the bulls are forced to endure in the name of entertainment and the tradition of San Fermin.
The Sanfermines festival dates back to the 14th Century and lasts a week although the bull run, which sees the animals chase people through the streets, is the most well known event.
