Cure your fear of flying
January 11, 2006UK-based airline Virgin Atlantic is offering flying-averse Brits in the vicinity of Luton and Newcastle a chance to overcome their fears.
The airline has just added Luton Airport and Newcastle Airport to the string of UK venues that carry out its Flying Without Fear courses.
Those wanting to explore the world but too scared to take to the skies can pay £199 plus VAT to attend a one-day course designed to banish their phobia forever.
The Luton course will take place on January 22 and the Newcastle course on February 12, with the airline claiming a 98 per cent success rate.
The courses include a detailed talk on how the aircraft operates and an in-depth psychotherapy session exploring phobias.
They conclude with a 45-minute flight.
Virgin Atlantic also places an emphasis on aftercare services, with participants able to request special arrangements if they fly with the airline in the future.
Virgin boss Richard Branson said he was "thrilled" to be able to offer the new venues, adding that participants would gain "the confidence to fly and explore countries that they might never have been able to experience".
The programme has a potentially massive audience, with ten million Brits afraid of flying.

I think this is a briliant idea! I suffer from panic attacks, and I am frightened about getting on a plane in case I need to get off. This is fantastic for people like me.

If you are scared of flying you should check out www.scaredofflying.com. I got their CD and it was a great help, they also have a forum with other people who are worried. Let me know how you get on.

I found a DVD online at www.flyingwithoutfear.com. It is fantastic, and I also bought their audio help. There is also a community which helped me feel better. The airline courses are good, but this helped me as I could watch it at home just before I flew.
