Anyone travelling on the Heathrow Express from Paddington in central London can now check into their flight at the train station.
Automated self service machines installed at Paddington will from tomorrow (December 2) enable air passengers to print their boarding passes before getting on the train for Heathrow.
The new facility is intended to boost the convenience of the link, which takes passengers from the city to the airport in just 15 minutes.
"It's a touch screen machine, much like the ones that you use at the airport," ABTN quoted a spokesperson for train operator Heathrow Express as saying.
"You pick the airline that you're flying with and that takes you to the flight," he explained. The spokesperson added that once the passenger has input his flight details into the self service machine "out pops your boarding card and then you get on the train and go".
Initially only people flying with United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Iberia can use the service, though it will shortly be expanded to include British Airways and Virgin Atlantic.
In contrast to previous check-in services that were trialled in Victoria and Paddington stations, the new facility will be open to any airline that wishes to sign up.
