Virgin introduces direct flights to Puerto Rico
November 4, 2009 Puerto Rico has long been a favourite holiday destination among US travellers, and less popular with UK travellers simply because there were no direct flights on offer - until now. Virgin Atlantic has just introduced a new weekly direct flight from London to Puerto Rico.
The new service will begin on Saturday November 7 on Virgin’s Boeing 747-400 from London Gatwick direct to the country’s capital San Juan.
Although the capital is rich in history and stunning colonial architecture, most people coming off San Juan flights use it as a base to explore other parts of the country including the the coastal town of Guánica and the Caribbean National Forest, El Yunque.
With the launch of Virgin’s new direct service, Virgin Holidays Cruises promises to offer holidaymakers a range of cruise holidays from the island.
Nick Parker Virgin’s Caribbean country manager said: “The Caribbean has remained a strong market for Virgin Atlantic since we first started flying there in 1998 and we are thrilled to be adding San Juan.
“Virgin Atlantic flies nearly two million passengers each year from London Gatwick and Puerto Rico will serve to increase this further, especially with many passengers connecting onto cruises operating within the Caribbean.”
From November 7 the new flights will depart from Gatwick on Saturdays at 09:25, arriving San Juan at 16:05 (local time) and depart on Saturdays from San Juan leaving at 18:05, arriving at London Gatwick the following morning.
