Etihad Airways wins prestigious travel award
November 10, 2009Etihad Airways, the Abu Dhabi-based airline, enjoyed its share of the limelight at this year’s World Travel Awards.
The carrier picked up two prestigious awards: the World's Leading Airline and World's Leading Airline in the First Class category while Virgin Atlantic was named World's Leading Transatlantic Airline.
Other winners included Qatar Airways which was voted the World's Best Business Class Carrier and easyJet which was named World's Leading Budget / No Frills Airline. TAP Portugal (website: www.flytap.com) also received an award for World's Leading Airline To South America.
Graham Cooke, President and founder of the World Travel Awards, said: "Today's winners have not only been recognised as the best in their region, but they have proved themselves to be the best in the world and the number one choice of travel professionals and consumers alike.
"They have remained focused on their long-term objectives and continued to deliver above and beyond the call of duty, setting an industry example."

There are awards for every section and yet none for the
"World's leading airline in Economy class". Why?

Oh great! It's a victory for Etihad Airways. Yes, president and founder of the award said true about Etihad Airways that there is no need to recognise the best in the region. It has proved itself the best in the world for both business and consumers. Really it deserves that award.

Etihad has always been among the top airlines in the UAE, and its recent codeshare agreement with Flybe will make travelling to the UAE much easier from the UK.
