Virgin Atlantic hailed as 'coolest travel brand'
October 7, 2009Sir Richard Branson will have a swagger in his step this morning after Virgin Atlantic became the only travel firm to make it into the 2009/10 CoolBrands Top 20 list.
Some 2,458 members of the public were asked to select the winners of the competition, which assesses brands for their style, innovation, originality and desirability.
Virgin's success follows the unveiling of its 'Still Red Hot' TV campaign earlier this year, which commemorated the 25th anniversary of the airline.
The advertisements feature several striking stewardesses clad in Virgin's signature red uniforms and strutting through an airport terminal to the delight of onlookers.
But as CEO Steve Ridgway explained it's not just the airline's cabin crew who are turning heads, with this latest award underscoring its broader commitment to brand excellence.
"We are delighted to be the only travel company featuring in the top 20 CoolBrands," he commented in a press release. "It is testament to Virgin Atlantic's continuing widespread and international appeal, and demonstrates that we are still red hot 25 years on."
Stephen Cheliotis, chief executive of the Centre for Brand Analysis, added: "Competition to be seen as one of the coolest brands in the UK is as fierce as ever and clearly Virgin Atlantic is delivering in the eyes of experts and the public."
