Thomson and First Choice eye Robin Hood Airport
October 13, 2009Robin Hood Airport (website: RobinHoodAirport.com) in Doncaster will benefit from the addition of two new holiday destinations thanks to First Choice and Thomsonfly (website: Thomsonfly.com).
The low-cost carriers said that from next May they will expand their route networks at the base, adding new services to Antalya in Turkey and Lanzarote in the Canary Islands.
A spokesman for the airport welcomed the announcements, describing the new routes as "a welcome boost for travellers from across the region".
He told The Yorkshire Post: "We work closely with Thomson and First Choice and are pleased that strong early bookings have created the demand for these extra flights.
"We have found that people like to book early to travel from Doncaster to guarantee the convenience of being able to fly from their local airport."
Robin Hood Airport has been hit by disappointingly low passenger numbers in recent months, which were only exacerbated by Ryanair's recently announced drawdown.
Airport bosses remain confident that they can reverse the downward trend, however, citing the successful launch of new flights to Monastir in Tunisia.
