Heathrow voted world's worst airport, again

It's not the first time and it probably won't be the last, but London Heathrow has hit the headlines today after being voted the worst airport in the world.

The global hub retained its dubious title in the annual Priority Pass survey, which quizzed 14,500 frequent travellers who each take an average of 17 flights a year.

While last year's result was widely put down to the bungled launch of Terminal 5, the new poll shows that even one year on passengers still have plenty to gripe about.

"The travellers who took part in this survey took almost 250,000 flights between them," noted Jonathan French of Priority Pass. "And that means they know a thing or two about airports.

"Sadly, Heathrow remains firmly entrenched as the airport the world loves to hate."

Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport followed close behind in second place – making the prospect of a London to Paris break seem more daunting than ever – while Los Angeles LAX, Frankfurt International and Miami International rounded off the bottom five.

Amsterdam Schiphol was voted the best gateway in Europe, meanwhile, and Singapore Changi stormed ahead to take the coveted title of best airport in the world.

Even outside of Priority Pass research, this is not the first time Heathrow has been slammed by pollsters. In February, WAYN.com users voted it the worst airport in the world, and just a month later Which? Holiday magazine also dubbed it Britain's worst.

Don Langford, one of American Airlines' most senior executives, didn't mince his words last year when he called Heathrow the worst base in Europe and "a bit of a dump".
