Delta reinstates Manchester to New York JFK link
October 21, 2009Barely a month after scrapping its Manchester to New York JFK service, Delta Air Lines has confirmed that it will reintroduce the route next summer.
The connection, which is jointly operated by codeshare partner Air France / KLM, will be reinstated next May after being temporarily taken out of service on January 7.
Despite Delta's insistence that the drawdown was a temporary measure, doubts had been growing about whether the carrier would bring back the route.
Those fears gathered pace when American Airlines announced a new daily service between the cities, but the latest announcement by Delta will put an end to the speculation.
"Manchester is an important market for Delta," airline spokesman Armin Venencie stated. "We are committed to this city and will be operating two daily services during the busy holiday periods."
Continental and Pakistan International Airlines (website: www.piac.com.pk) also currently operate the route, though British Airways axed its Manchester to New York service in October 2008.
The reinstated Delta connection will be serviced by a Boeing 757-200 capable of carrying 170 people. It will complement the carrier's existing direct link to Atlanta.
