Monarch scraps booking fees for PayPal users
September 15, 2009Passengers who book flights with Monarch can currently avoid the booking fee if they submit their payment via money transfer service PayPal.
The promotional discount, which is running throughout September, has been staged to commemorate a two-year partnership between the companies.
Until the end of the month, all flights booked with the airline through its website and paid for via PayPal will have their booking fee automatically waived.
To be eligible for the time-limited special offer, Monarch customers must have opened and verified a UK account with the online money transfer service.
"A growing number of our customers now choose to pay for their flights using PayPal and have spent over £10 million since its introduction," noted Monarch spokesperson Liz Savage.
"As a thank you to them ... we are delighted to be waiving the booking fees on all flights booked on monarch.co.uk and paid for using PayPal before the end of September."
Standard PayPal booking fees are equivalent to three per cent of the total value of the Monarch booking, with a minimum charge of £2.49 per transaction.

When I booked my Monarch flight last summer and paid with PayPal, there was no PayPal booking fee. Clearly a recent addition to Monarch's many fees in order to boost revenue.
