Cheapflights' Twitter Travel Stars
September 11, 2009This is Cheapflights’ answer to the weekly #FollowFriday fun.
For those unacquainted with the world of Twitter, I’ll fill you in. It has become traditional to share a tweet or two every Friday recommending a few of your favourite Twitterers to your friends. Sometimes it’s a way of saying thank you to those who have helped you out by contributing to a discussion on Twitter, but mostly it’s a chance to give exposure to a few folk who may otherwise not receive promotion. It’s a great honour to be recommended in a #followfriday tweet; it means you must be doing something right.
Below you will find seven people who make Twitter a fun place to be. Twitter is without borders, so their locations vary from Britain to Austria and all the way to Canada. Enjoy.
You can follow all of these people with a couple of clicks by visiting this page.
Journey Woman of @JourneyWoman
Evelyn is the inspiration behind this blog post, and an inspiration for much else too to her tens of thousands of travel-addicted newsletter subscribers around the world. Read her daily travel tips on Twitter, but, more importantly, subscribe to the JourneyWoman newsletter. You'll be joining more than 65,000 women around the world who already receive the must-read mailing.
Boaz Sachs of @cougarmicrobes
Boaz is a London-based blogger, journalist, and rather fabulous photographer. His brilliant photo of Tel Aviv was our #TravelFocus photo a few weeks ago. He’s a charming lad who’ll invite you to his club nights, chat happily about London life, and share the odd juicy link.
Andreas of @Travelwriticus
A travel writer and photographer (though he won’t admit the latter) of humble sincerity and broad scope. He’s based in Austria and his European travels and records appear unrivalled. His site is a verifiable travel wikipedia with images and descriptions on hundreds of destinations and landmarks in central Europe.
David Whitley of @mrdavidwhitley (aka the Grumpy Traveller)
David is a freelance travel journalist who describes himself as a man "not known for his sunny disposition". Luckily, his self-deprecating humour lends itself to great tweets such as this definition of "numpty", and humorous observations on the travel industry and every day travel.
Darren Cronian of @TravelRants
How can you mention "travel" and "twitter" and not include Darren? He’s regularly on the frontline of Twitter-based travel debates, and it’s hard to dislike his sincerity and approachability. He’s full of tips and tricks. A leader in the blogging world, if you’re into that you should head to his Travel BlogCamp in November. I’ll be there.
Alice of @Spoonfed
If you’re a Londoner, this is a must-follow (though it would be unfair to mention London and not reference the great @TimeOutBigSmoke and @Londonist). Alice is a chirpy character, and her twitterings through the day keep me reminded that I live in one of the best cities in the world (and knowing about free stuff happening in London can’t be a bad thing).
Simon Pilkington of @TTG_Jobs
Simon’s photo of Croatia was featured on our background too, and he’s a well-travelled chap. The TTG_Jobs account shares new job openings in the travel industry, but Simon manages find time to contribute regularly to our #TravelFocus themes and often shares fantastic tips. Thanks Simon ;)
Follow them, and, if you like, you could also follow @Cheapflights too. Enjoy your weekend.
