Monarch beefs up flights to Canary Islands
August 20, 2009
No-frills airline Monarch has confirmed that its summer 2010 timetable will include scheduled flights to the Canary Islands from several of its UK bases.
The low-cost carrier will fly to Fuerteventura from Manchester Airport twice a week, in addition to operating weekly services from Birmingham, Gatwick and Luton airports.
It will also service the popular resort of Gran Canaria with two new weekly flights from Birmingham and Manchester airports, as well as a weekly one from Gatwick.
Additionally, frequencies on several other popular routes are being stepped up by the airline, including flights to Tenerife, Lanzarote, Larnaca, Gibraltar and Ibiza.
"We are seeing huge demand for our mid-haul destinations this year and have responded to this with the introduction of Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria," TravelMole quoted Liz Savage, Managing Director of Monarch flights and holidays, as saying.
The airline recently became the dominant carrier for Spain at Manchester Airport – a position which will be cemented by Ryanair's forthcoming withdrawal from the base.
