Vueling set to debut at London Heathrow
July 7, 2009Spanish low-cost carrier Vueling will touch down on British soil for the first time this summer when it takes over several routes operated by newly acquired Clickair.
The two airlines will formally complete a merger on Thursday (July 9), boosting Vueling's route network to 46 destinations and making it Spain's second largest carrier.
As part of the agreement the Clickair brand – launched just three years ago – will completely disappear, with Vueling taking over all its former routes.
The schedule includes daily services from London Heathrow to Bilbao, La Coruna and Seville, while the no-frills carrier will also continue to operate summer flights to Vigo.
Additionally, the merger will see Vueling substantially strengthen its presence in the Spanish capital Madrid, as well as growing its bases in Barcelona, Malaga and Valencia.
In total it will run 92 different routes from 46 airports. Former Clickair owner Iberia, which is also Spain's largest carrier, will hold a 45.85 per cent stake in the airline.
