Children star in Thomson flight safety video
July 9, 2009Thomson Airways has taken a novel approach to engaging passengers with its flight safety video, by enlisting the services of an all-kid cabin crew.
The low-cost carrier's pre-flight film now features a cast of young children who give a full demonstration of emergency exits, oxygen masks and lifejackets.
The under-12s were signed up because of their "ahh factor," which it is hoped will encourage people to focus more closely on to the potentially lifesaving video.
After conducting preliminary research into the film, Thomson found that there was a 15 per cent increase in the number of people who gave the video their full attention.
"The safety and security of our customers has always been our number one priority," spokesman Carl Gissing explained. "The creative style of this new film demonstrates our commitment to communicating important safety instructions in a way which maximises audience engagement."
Thomson's new video comes just one week after Air New Zealand unveiled its own attempt at producing an eye-catching flight safety video for passengers.
The Australasian carrier took a markedly different approach, using nude cabin crew members with painted-on uniforms whose modesty was preserved by strategic camerawork.
