Ashes victory spells cheap flights to Australia
July 15, 2009Cricket fans will have an extra reason to cheer on England this week, with two airlines vowing to peg their ticket prices to the results of the second Ashes Test.
British Airways and Qantas have both promised to lower their return fares to Australia, matching the score achieved by its players during their first innings at Lord's.
Meanwhile, the availability of seats will be pegged to England's number of runs in the same innings, meaning that an all-out thrashing will be great news for holidaymakers.
Under the rules of the promotion, if Australia are bowled out for 230 the cost of return fares will be slashed to £230 – a fraction of the standard £730 fare.
It will then be up to the England team to determine how many travellers can take advantage of the deal, with a tally of 395 runs translating to 395 promotional fares.
"If it's anything like the previous Ashes, we expect to be bowled over with interest from customers," commented Simon Brooks, BA Consumer Sales Manager. "The Ashes is a highlight in the sporting calendar, and now there’s an extra reason to get behind your team."
The flag carrier ran a similar promotion during the 2005 Ashes, when 367 lucky holidaymakers snapped up bargain fares of just £373 return, including all taxes.
